Bomb Bloke
Still not up to a full release yet, but nonetheless, here's where I'm up to in my save game map viewer for UFO: Enemy Unknown. Installation:Download the archive >, or from > if you have trouble (40KB). You'll need the Sun Java VM v1.4.1 or later. No, Microsoft's version won't cut it, you'll need to get it from Sun (check the popular downloads list on the right for the "Java VM". ~15MB). Once that's installed, you won't need to download it again (except for other more up-to-date Java programs; I will continue to use this version myself). Unzip the map viewer archive into you game directory, and run the new BAT file. Usage:Treat it like the normal game, but don't expect to be able to change the save file. Click the buttons to change level view, etc. When you start it, fog of war will be turned on. Toggle it by pressing 'F'. When fog is off, you can see the whole map, and treat non-X-Com units as your own. You will also be able to see psi stats for all units when fog is off. Supported Stuff:Displays the whole map. Displays all units, along with their weapons, stats, and inventories. Stuff That Needs Work:Palette in data files doesn't match that which the game uses, so mine looks dodgy. Inventory programming only half complete. Smoke programming fudged. No lighting. Large units on ramps look funny. Object piles on the ground are drawn in the wrong order. Any text string that ends in a capitol L has the end chopped off. There's no overhead map. If you select an unused save file, the program crashes. (The real game acts even weirder if you select an unused save, however... ) I also plan to add the display of other statistics the game hides from you. Bomb Bloke
What the... someone posted in here?! Yeah, I put this up a while back. I then rebuilt my site, which does have a version of the program, but not this latest one. Props to Slaughter who noticed I added it to the site files. The current version is a bit more advanced, but I doubt I'll upload it until the map editing code is complete.
Danial
When I try and run the program, it says "Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: MapView" and waits for me to press a key, then exits the DOS window I have Java installed... and even verified it on their website just to make sure... What's going on?
