shagpuss Posted February 13, 2005 Share Posted February 13, 2005 MunkeyLord did u say u were playing on insane?  Slaughter and Lurker, I have got the AVP and Aliens books and they are a good read, although they aint no Stephen King. The Stand, fantastic!  One of the Aliens books covers an idea where the Aliens make it earth, thats the idea I would love them to use for the next Aliens film.... I hoped that the FW settings worked and came almost to the end of the mission, far closer than the last time! I think i was about 99,9 % finished, all that was left was one chaos marine to kill and a generator to shut off (actually only one click to do) and guess what.... Yes, CTD.  I gonna restart that whole campaign on a less difficult level so i can at least save the game every turn. It's really frustrating to get those crashes over and over. Especially if you can't save and lose hours of "work" that way. Look here: Link It even works in skirmish mode, i tested both. ChaosGate, well i will start my new campaign today, let's hope i can finish the CTD mission then!  AND the new Daemonhunter Mod is out!!! New models should be included iirc: Lookey!  -Checklist to run Chaos Gate in XP with (hopefully) no problem: I think i found the cause of all CG CTDs now (knock on wood):  1.First thing: You don't need any Compatibility mode, BUT you have to use the 640x480 resolution in the game, all other resolutions and you'll get the CTD. (Actually you will see almost no difference in the game when using higher res.)2. Firewall setting: Not sure, but if you'll get errors make an exception for CG in the settings.3. The 1.2 patch may be flawed, change the options of the patch-installer so that it does NOT abort if it doesn't finds a file.4. I've read that some xp users had CTDs when the Cultists shot their laspistols and when they say "Join us", the solution was crude but may help: Turn off the sound in the game.5. Do NOT use the no-cd patch, it seems it isn't XP compatible.6. Try to leave all options (especially the animations and their speed) at the default settings. I found that changing them caused small glitches like an ocasionally beep when the cultists say "Join us" Ok, i'm off trying to play this game.... (best of them is the Cadian Inquisition) and the Daemonhunters mod adds a really impressive race instead of the puny imperial guard, which is basically already in the game. That's a real dissapointment imo.... Â CG runs good atm without CTDs, but the game is a bit buggy on some moments. (Even with the 1.2 patch applied), yesterday i had a non-moving cultist that crashed the game when i shot him, had to reload several times and changed my tactic: I went VERY close and suddenly he moved again and didn't cause a CTD when shot. Maybe the lazy cultist was Shagpuss in disguise, filled up with too much Pie that he had eaten... ? :lol: Kret i think you haver found the cause of the CTDS there :lol: Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

They have tons of new models (tanks, soldiers, artillery, assasins etc.) Awesome work. If you see what those modders have acchieved you will understand my dissapointment over the "little" expansion. I think it contains 3 times more stuff than the official addon. Lurker Posted February 16, 2005 Share Posted February 16, 2005 Aralez's Chaos Gate CTD's sound very much like my Aftermath CTD's. He's definitely experiencing the frustration that I was feeling whenever Aftermath crashed on me. The worst was when Aftermath crashed during a save. Of course, the second worse is to play for an hour and forget to save. In such a situation, it always crashes right when you are ready to push a button for the next level or for the end of the game. And, then you have to try to reload and do it all over again. However, if it crashed every ten minutes, you would get used to saving regularly, but with Aftermath, I could sometimes go for hours without any crashes whatsoever. I wish that some of these companies, including Altar, would dust off the boxes of some of these games, recode them, and recompile them to run right under Windows XP and Firewalls. -- The Tyranids are what I would have liked to have seen in an Official Expansion, that or the Necrons. The first version of the Tyranid Mod is Out:https://www.dudeslair.com/tyranids/viewtopic.php?t=374 I don't know how good it is, though. I made a testgame (on easy ) with them against Chaos. Even the mighty Chaos HQ didn't took to long to be crashed. The Grand Knights look awesome and those Chimera tanks, nice! Another good mod (albeit without new models) is the "Dance Macabre mod" which adds a small Eldar tribe to the race selection. It focuses on infantry mostly and only includes a few troops unlike the Daemonhunter mod that almost floods the player with choices  Lurker, nice to see you back! Atm i don't experience any crashes (knock on wood) anymore and i'm almost back in the 5th level (~20th mission) were i was when i experienced the CTDs. I did use the second hardest difficulty that lets you save every moment you'd like to. Actually it has MORE and better equipped enemy troops than the highest difficulty.  A general advice for the no-cd-patch for CG, though: Do NOT use it, i think it contains a trojan/worm. I finished the dreaded mision, where i had 10 CTDs before, and since i use the default options and no Compatibility mode i had NO problems this time! The last enemy was the hardest, after bringing down two Chaos-Psykers (kind of Psi-Wizards) and a whole dozen of ChaosMarines defending the room with the shield generator (that was hard, whew) the only one left was a ChaosMarine with a heavy bolter. He was in an excellent position, i could not move closer to him without getting hit. So i decided to pick a unit with full health ("Secundus" volunteered) as a bait and when the enemy had wasted his action points on him, i blasted him away with a heavy plasma gun, nice explosion, wow, the Chaosmarine was vaporized (really!). Secundus received a "mastercrafted bolter" as a gift for this herous action. And lots of XP In the next mission i'm allowed to use Terminators, a Predator tank was used in the mission before the one from my post. I'm really interested how the Dreadnoughts will be...
