Action Ferret
When I try to use map editor, it keeps trying to get onto the internet. Is this right. I'm using the UK version. :?
Biggles
it shouldn't be, it should be trying to access your SQL server.
Action Ferret
What's an SQL server ? :?
DartVader
Game CD 1binmsdesetup.exe this installs the MS-SQL Server, needed for the Map Editor
Biggles
and the thing to be aware of here is that this is a server... so if you are connected to the internet you 'may' be open to people attempting to access yor server, and some worms take advantage of SQL servers to spread. So make sure you have the latest MS security update and always use a firewall.
Action Ferret
Does this mean I have to be on the internet, to use the map editor ? :?
Biggles
No, not at all. It's simply a warning that IF you are on the internet, take precautions against intrusions... but that should be standard practise anyway.
ShadowHunter
Is it possible to load up the editor without installing the SQL server? I'm using cable, so I'm always connected. I don't want to open any holes in my protection programs if I don't have to :?
Biggles
No, you have to have the server running. But if you've got your system secure it's NOT going to put any holes in it, just use a firewall liek you should anyway, and make sure you always get the latest windows updates (I think there are a couple that will become available after you have the server installed)
