It seemed rather ridiculous that an elite commando force would have to scrounge for decent weapons. Now that my guys can start off with the best of everything, I've had to use some self contraint. Only allied weapons for the allies, axis for axis side. Also, characters are realistically limited to 1 rilfe and 1 side arm. I was really getting tired of never developing any familiarity with any weapons as I was always trading up.

Yes, a little restraint while playing this game can really enhance the feel. I found that I changed weapons a bit in the earlier missions, but after that I had settled down to some favourites for each character, and stayed with them for most of the game.

By the end I had pretty good familiarity with them.

I still have yet to figure out what the "Familiarity" does for me. Also just trading up at the Organization's Warehouse" in North Britain. Could not pass up the Scoped SVT-40 rifles just lying around in abundance : )

Familiarity is a subtle bonus to start off with. It's only when you take a familiar weapon out, and replace it with the same model but 'unfamiliar' that you see just how much it's helping.

Depending on the weapons stats, you may not really see much improvement until it's at about level 4 or 5 (or higher).
