Oddball_E8
I think there are some bugs that are just overlooked in this game... things like the fact that almost 50% of all troops you meet are old and half bald... (no young mans war here)the weather... whats up with that? one minute its nice and sunny and then it rains and thunders for 30 seconds before being nice and sunny again...wierd? i say blame it on El Niñooh and why are so many UK troops running around with russan guns? did i miss something? wasnt it the USSR that got the Lend-Lease equipment?or did they pay with nagants?and whats up with the blood in close combat... hold your knife in a downward stabbing motion and youll have lots of blood on you... but if you stab upward youll be clean as a whistle...and your sniper? death from afar? more like deth from across the street!you cant even shoot across most random encounter maps with sniper rifles... oh hell sometimes you cant even shoot as far as your eye can see... did they use some special subsonic ammo or what? the bullet just dissapears into thin air... very strange... these are the bugs i would like to see corrected immediately!
ShadowHunter
If you stab down, blood squirts up like a fountain and showers you if you stab up, it squirts aiming down, maybe that's why your guys can avoid getting blood on themselves
Geo
Within the game's context, it seems to stand to reason that special operations folks are going to be experienced, and aren't generally going to be greenhorns off the new recruit boat. Anyway, if I was Nival, that would be my excuse
ShadowHunter
But most of the enemies you kill are just normal soldiers Maybe someone should hand them walking sticks to beat at each other instead
Alaeth
Single most annoying thing is a bug: If you use Pazerklein gattling guns (or any projectile Panzer weapon) you will get a "Cannot calculate path! Try Again" message for 30+ seconds afterwards... then magically you can move again. Oddball, I haven't had any problems with sniping. My main two guys can shoot bloody far, while standing... after running. Try aiming for a full round before sniping (or get yourself a longer range rifle). I can speak from experience, that my guys are far better than I ever was. I estimate they can shoot 300 yards, standing, and still make a headshot. Keep in mind it would be less fun if it were more realistic... where's the fun in sniping everyone from 1100 yards with no fear or danger? Agree with the weather though...
polo
I think there are some bugs that are just overlooked in this game... things like the fact that almost 50% of all troops you meet are old and half bald... (no young mans war here) Wasn't there something like the dads army where all the older soldiers fought at home as the very last line of defense? But yeah, they're too young. And only about 2 black/asian npcs in the game too
Oddball_E8
Polo: dads army was the homeguard. they did NOT protect important installations... more like kept the peace in the hometown by showing they had protection. Alaeth: i mean the weapons bullet only go so far... then it magically dissapears... you should be able to fire a pistol across most maps in the game, not that you'd hit anything but still... Red
Special operatives... you can be right behind, 2 feet away of your enemy, with his back facing you... fire your weapon and "Bang!", you missed. Snipers are skilled in the art of - one shot, one kill - but, I aim almost half a day in that game and I've only got 50% odd (Far range, and it's not really far too... that's what's the scope for) chances. Plus if I manage to hit, it gives my target a petty "wounded" condition.
Jacques
Its not a bug its a scandal!!!Sniper my ass is absolutely right.Snip is useless. Take a lot of time, has no more effect than normal shot.Whats the point? But still as so many things in this BEAUTIFUL game, its complitely uselessbut its there. ShadowHunter
Snipe is mostly for when you are hidden. Since you can sit there all day and won't get hit, so why not get more accuracy and aim for the head?Shooting from right behind and missing is funny, but using a knife and miss is even more pathetic. How can you possibly miss with a knife when they don't know you're there?
xarope
huh? I don't understand the gripe people have with the sniper, I am achieving 1-shot kills to the head with the sniper right now, and this is at impossible level. I aim in the first round, then use all my APs to target, next round I take the shot aiming at the head, and its ALWAYS a 1 shot kill so far (assuming I get 100% with the hit of course)
ShadowHunter
How do you manage that? I can't even get 1 shot kill 100% of the time with my sniper in normal back when I used a sea devil.
xarope
You hit "T" for snipe shot, then click on your target to initiate the snipe, the next menu pops up where you have 4 (5 since the last choice is to take the shot; which you can also do by just clicking on the target again) choices:1) apply all APs to the shot2) apply all APs except for the shooting AP cost to the shot3) apply +10 APs (which gives approx +10%, usually a bit more) to the shot4) apply +1 AP so you choose (1); note that when I first played through axis I didn't realise this, so my snipe shots all had the same hit % as a normal shot, because when you click on the target again it takes the shot without applying any extra APs to the shot! then hit enter for the next turn (assuming you are done for the turn). If your target hasn't moved, then next turn move cursor over the target, and you should see that your hit% has gone up dramatically! Then target the head by holding down 8 on the numeric keypad, and click again to see the 120+VP damage. note that before I got the increased range critical +dmg, I was still doing 80+VP damage to the enemy. other notes; I am using a scoped M1 garand, haven't found the sea devil in allies yet (yes I know I can getitem it but that's besides the point, why bother playing impossible mode then! the only thing I "cheat" with the console is to save the hour long missions when I have to run off). if you are already doing this and don't get the same results as me, then I apologise, but I'm not cheating or have installed any mods, and I'm not on any superhuman skills levels either. My current allies sniper is approx 110 shooting and 80 sniping and is achieving 1 shot kills, my axis snipers were 130+ shooting and 100 sniping, but as I mentioned, I didn't realise how to add APs to the shot, so each kill was taking 3+ shots! [edit] I should add that you can keep clicking on "Add APs" (whether all, +10, +1 etc) until you use up some quota (maybe your snipe skill?) at which point it will leave you with >0 APs, that's when you know you are at the limit of adding APs to the shot. So for example, I can achieve two kills per turn by clicking +10/+1 in proportion to how many APs I have (currently only 68 for my sniper; my scout has more since she's the one wandering all over the map whereas my sniper sits tight), take the shot, then target the next, click on all but shot cost, then take the 2nd shot; I know my scoped M1 takes 22 APs for the snipe shot (I think it's 22), that's 68-44=24 points of extra% I can add, and if my two targets are close enough that's good enough for 100% to the head[/edit]

ShadowHunter
For my sniper, I've trained up my sniping skill to about 110 before the final mission. Chose the critical ranged shots ability, and still only get criticals occassionaly... :?Given, IF I manage a critical it's a 1 hit kill, but it doesn't always happen..
