Romy 2003
What is it used for?
Biggles
this had me puzzled at the start. But then I realised it's used for disarming bombs/mines.
MysticKnight
Damm I would have never figured that out by myself. Thax Biggles Guess it has a higher Bonus than the probe?
Biggles
Sure does. I guess with a piece of wire you can fashion all sorts of probes and tools for disarming mines.
psydeath
my engineer manufactures paperclips with it and sells them for good money
Paranoid Jack
I didn't see this thread before and just found it with a search. I was mentioning the fact (in another thread) I never used wire cutters or hank of wire at all. I know I tried them once and the trapped door blew up in my face. I assumed it was because I was using the wrong item... guess it was a skill level issue.
kermix
I assumed it was because I was using the wrong item... guess it was a skill level issue. Much like the skill requirements and bonuses on the hierarchy of medical items, the wire is the next step up from the standard mine probe. You know how better medical equipment gives higher bonuses to the skill, but it also requires that you have more of the skill in the first place? Same deal. Paranoid Jack
Makes sense but what is the progression and how do I tell in game? It may be in the manual.. I am the type of person who never reads them. I was wonding why certain medical items do not work at all though they are not subdued in red meaning the Doc is not high enough skill level yet. Thanks again for the info.
kermix
They probably work, you just might not know what for... the tooltips that appear over items do a pretty good job of explaining what they do. Just try hovering the cursor over the item in question for a while and it'll tell you everything you need to know, including skill requirements and game effects. Whisper
To the best of my knowledge, there are only two things the various engineering tools are used for: unlocking things (picklocks of whatever kind) and disarming traps (everything else). I haven't seen any way you can, for example, cut holes in fences a la Jagged Alliance. PS: the Master Engineer perk lets you ignore the skill number requirement for all the engineering tools, much like Master Medic lets you ignore the skill number for medical stuff. Biggles
Sentinels supposedly has more use for engineers! Also, I believe you'll find Wirecutters will be used for wirecutting Not bomb disarming. It's looking good folks.. I just wish they'd release a patch for S2 with the revised items and AI etc.
