A Little Help Needed

Ok, to use sigget's vfstool, where do I put the 'unpacked' directory?

Does that have to be in the UFOAftermath directory?

I probably did not install the game with the default folders' setup!

Just installed the game on a logical drive with the folder 'UFO Aftermath' or so that is where my game is?

I get an error using sigget's vfstool.exe version 1.3 that says 'target not found'~~

So before I think that was mentioned, or can that folder 'unpacked' be anywhere and 'changes' then also??

If not, then the little console program I am trying to write to input to his program the commands that sigget mentions in his readme.txt (to run his program) will have to be changed, and I thought that I check.

Okay, finally got the 9743 files, 408 directories gamedata.vfs file to extract but using vfstool.exe version 1.2, because I can not get version 1.3 to work. Help does not work, and 1.2 does work with the help command.

Made a new file called mygamedata.vfs, with the exact same info used or shown for gamedata.vfs. Turns out the same size!

But, the Occupied memory is 0, instead of compressing anything like all the directories back into it.

I am assuming here that maybe the packer program will pack back the files into this test file called mygamedata.vfs, and although I can calculate a md5 checksum, all the sub-directories of the gamedata.vfs file in the changed folder, are not in the new file.

I tried insert command also, but failed to produce anything with that.

I get a 'failed to enumerate directory' error.

So, I do not know????? ???

Oh, I think I got a different number when back in Explorer, but there were many files. Not sure though since I deleted it all.

Have to decompress it once again, but I also have other things to do, so, it is not that important.

Really could not get vfstool 1.3 to work, not like version 1.2, which did work.

So, have to slow down here, as it is different than I thought, and hard-coding in commands for a console program would require many lines of code, and everything would have to be worked out, before, since it can only be done that way not using MFC in Microsoft's program.

So, by that time, probably Altar may come out with something else first, and it would be a couple of months later, although, right now, it would decompress the file, but moving files may be a problem, since it has to be hard-coded, which means, might as well use the command prompt or ms-dos prompt.

Well, back later!

So, also other things to do.

And I am not really all that advanced with all of it anyway.

Time to finish the game.

I mostly use Fulbys vfs-tool (called _vfs), it has a drag-and-drop functionality and you have a nice list of options to choose for every step you make, i almost can use it with eyes closed! Oh and you don't need to alter the big gamedata.vfs-file itself, if you make a file (with fulbys tool very easy) named SOMETHINGcfg.vfs you can pack the edited files in it and the game will use the data from this file not from the gamedata one. Make sure you use the right directory structure in the _importfolder to make things work with that tool! Maybe you could unpack one of the mods to see how things are done in it, i'm sure that will help you! And make sure you take a look at siggets reference site, did help me a lot at the beginning. Bye!

Yes, I have that one also. But I have not even finished the game yet.

It is just that I thought I try something with programming but well, that is different to do, since it involves some of the commands to be like they are, and I as just trying something out.
