DarkWolf
Well in ufo and tftd the night was the moment were the aliens were the stronger because of the LoS, so in this game, what is the function of the flare if there is no night?

Slaughter
Well, I tend to ask a lot of things, and since Martin isn't my personal info centre... I am sure they know of this, since it has been mentioned in the forums over and over.
sigget
UFO:am generates lightmaps for every mission depending on the time of day and direction to the sun. The shadows cast by trees and hills are not precalculated. Ive never used the flares but i suppose they lighten shadowed and dark areas. Night doesnt seem to have the impact on the ambient light level that it should. My guess is that Altar decided that realistic night darkness wouldnt be very enjoyable and decreased its effect, perhaps a little too much.
