Patches

I've been looking for and can't find any patches for X-Com. Rather than having to download a CPU killer, or some other type of program to slow down a CPU, why not just have a patch that makes X-Com and its components compatable with windows '98 and on? If there are let me know. It would make things in a life a little easier. Rather than just playing the game on my old 486. If there is already a topic like this one out there so sorry.

I think there are no compatibility patches for X-Com, per se. There is the Collector's Edition X-Com, which is compatible with Win98, but I think it's a recompilation of some sort. I don't have it, and my version runs just fine, but with the slowdown utility.

 

The reason that no patches have been released is probably because it would be, at best, unprofitable.

it can't be that hard playin on your 486, can it? well, what pc do you have (98 comp)? i have 2 (3 if you cound my 486, but i canibalised it and now its a footrest! ) comps, one PI 166 clocked to 200MHz, and the other PII 300A MHz clocked to several different speeds, depending on the situation (max 450MHz). UFO/TFTD runs too fast on the PII, not that i would play it on that because the sound is stuffed, as the sound chip (yes, im pov! o don't even have a sound card... ::hangs head in shame :: ) is too new or doesn't have backward compatability. it runs maybe a little too fast on the PI, but its still good. so what is the exact problem on your machine? (don't forget to theckout dosbox in the ufo section)
