el_bardos
I have the same problem (I think). On installation it comes up with an error on the files/buffers allocation. It wants 20/20 and xp is set for 40/0. On old versions of windows this is a simple config.sys edit, but what do you do now that there is no such file? Currently when I try running in windows 95 compatability mode I just get a blank screen. I join in the plea for help. Why oh why did I bother to upgrade
NKF
I really think we need one big pinned thread in this forum especially for Apocalypse and XP woes. But this is the old file/buffer issue, which isn't OS related. It'll do the same in MS Dos 5.0 too. Since I don't have XP and have no idea what I'm talking about, my only recommendation is that you go to start > run, enter "msconifg" and run it. If it starts up, you should be able to edit your config files with no trouble. I'd recommend setting both files and buffers to 40 - this should shut the install program up. Don't forget to restart the computer. Whether or not this has any effect on XP is another matter entirely. The funny thing is, the game doesn't really need these to be set. Or at least, the buffers parameters doesn't need to be set. It's just the install program that's making a big fuss. I copied Apocalypse from my old computer to my new computer (via a network connection) and was able to play it. It was only recently that I discovered that my buffers were never set and were still at 0. If installing the game is just a matter of copying all the relevant files onto the hard drive (it's a dos game, so it won't have to mess around with the system registry), I think the best solution would be to make a custom install program that does what the install program does but ignores the files/buffers problem. - NKF
