joestrummersballs
Thanks for the advice, sorry to be a complete dimwit but could NKF or anybody else tell me what exactly should I type in the config file is it "files=x" and "buffers=x" is upper lower case yeah sorry about the spamming did'nt know, thanks to sfc I have managed to sort out the files and buffers problem, however when I try to install it freezes and locks at about 98% and I have to reboot. After rebooting x-com files are on c drive however cannot seem to play or run it, any advice or help would be extremely welcome. I have not played x-com for about 5 years and am desperarte need of a fix. I have a Pentium 3 and run windows
NKF
Just make sure the lines in the config.sys file look something like the following: files = 40buffers = 40 Character case, and the order they appear in the config.sys doesn't matter, as long as they are on separate lines. If there's anything else in the config.sys file, just insert these two lines at the top. If either line already exists, just edit the value after the equals sign. I'd recommend values of 40 or above - just pick a value that will satisfy the install program. For example, my config.sys file looks like the following: Device=c:\windows\himem.sysDevice=c:\windows\emm386.exe RAM x=c000-cffffiles=40 To satisfy the Apocalypse install program, I'd just insert buffers = 40 right after files = 40. So now the file would look something like: Device=c:\windows\himem.sysDevice=c:\windows\emm386.exe RAM x=c000-cffffiles=40buffers=40 Of course, this is how it would look on my system. Yours may differ. Hmm, you know, when I think about it... how the heck did I install apocalypse and bypass the buffers requirements when my config.sys doesn't even have a 'buffers' line? Oh well, never mind me. - NKF P.S: You should reply to the first thread. One of these threads will either be locked/deleted, or the two will be merged. I'm picturing a moderator with flaming eyes and a foaming mouth...
The Veteran
Strummer, I know you're a noob but we don't start multiple threads for the same topic here... It wastes space on the forums. As the old thread is obviously not being used I'll see if I can delete it. I don't know if I have my moddy powers in Support though!
Ki-tat Chung
thats striange...you should be able to install no probs, eventhough your buffers/files don't meet the min req's....
