bulldogc
ok ive got way advanced squads(dont recall the levels but their almost all heroic across the boards. ive got pretty good wep supply(plasmas lasers allt he fringes, even got a folding gauss(can someone lemi know how to use this cause i built it but it wont let me equip it). the problem all comes with fighting the aliens ANYWHERE. almost everyone has the huge gauss like alien cannons and rockets. i cant even walk 5 blocks from spawns without getting eradicated in 1 or 2 hits. now i got boimass creaping in on nearly all my bases and i cant finish the russa area 51ish mission or cap a ufo with a biogenerator because of the above problem. anyone got any ideas? systems
When you start a new map DON'T MOVE. Just switch to "walk" mode and stay put until your immediate area is secure. Then slowly move your highest stealth units forward as spotters. As for using equipment - check the in game glossary menu for details.
X-COM
Yeah, I'm having the same problems: I have a great squad who are Heroic or excellent in every skill and I have the them all suited up in sun armour and shooting with alien laser rifles and the researched plasma rifles. I can't do the Russian base thing either because all the aliens have rocket launchers. Help would be most appreciated!
zowrath
As for the russian mission it is highly doable, topic discussed here: (https://www.ufoaftermath.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=421). I use Steygr Assault Rifles on the Aliens in Blue Sky Armor no matter what weapon they have,it really chews them to pieces and always have an RPG-soldier for taking out aliens standing close to eachother and for the extra dmg (although it says 550 in dmg on the RPG you can with skill do good criticals, I usually do 1300-1400 dmg with each round) Also, in bases, the flamethrower is an underrated weapon. It does a whopping 3900 in base dmg! One flamethrower-soldier takes down a blue sky armor in one hit/spray(!)None of the missions are really so hard that they are non-playable, you just need to constantly reconfigure your soldiers equipments to match your foe. This means switching back and forth with conventional, alien and newly made own weapons. This is a beauty since you get to use a lot of weapons, and not just the superweapon like all other games Z. systems
If you're being taken out with rocket launchers, do this: 1. Have 3-4 men with sniper rifles (and backup weapon) - when you start a new level crouch them and wait... 2. Use smoke grenades to cut off the alien view of you until you are ready to engage. 3. Spead out slowly (use walk). Always move your stealthy units forward first and keep the others still to cover. Then move them up and repeat (the trusty "leapfrog"). 4. Use more smoke grenades. :o
