darlingsambo
hi everybody i tried to install UFO AM on my PC (P IV 512 Mo RAM, Video CArd Nvidia MX 440 128 Mo) and got the following error message just when the splashscreen displays : <<internal failure - error number 0x8002802B - description : élément introuvable>> (= element not found). I've browsed the forum and seen that some people got a message looking more or less like this, and got rid of the error by deleting an "installshield" folder. I tried to do this on my PC, but it didn't help. I updated my nvidia drivers, installed direct x 9, it didn't help either. I also tried to ask help to altar but got no answer yet. I'd really appreciate some help Thanks by advance.
sigget
Ive looked at the installshield support forums and their best advice is to delete the folder "program files\common files\installshield\professional". But it sounds as if you've already tried that. Someone also commented and said that this error is often the result of access restrictions, so you might want to try installing as administrator. darlingsambo
you're right sigget, i already tried to delete that folder, and it didn't help. But i didn't try to install as administrator, so i'll do this and i'll let you know what happens. Thanks a lot anyway. PS : by the way, yesterday night i tried to install the game on a PC owned by a friend, and... it worked ! I didn't try to play cause i had no time for this, but at last it shows that it's not a CD corruption problem (never seen such a thing in years with a commercial CD, anyway...) darlingsambo
well, it works now !!! Looks like i didn't correctly check the "professionnal" folder i was supposed to delete. This time, the installation went to its end without error, the game started without crash, and... well, it looks much like the good old X-Com relooked ! sigget
The problem, as ive understood it, is that the installshield engine gets in a state where this starts to happen every time. From their support forum it looked as if this was a known bug thats been around for a long time. So there's no point blaming Altar for this, just delete that folder and the engine's state will be reset.

sigget
Have you looked for installshield files in Documents and Settings and the registry? Perhaps that might help.
