Slaughter
...still well worth a mention. As some of you may know, there's a open source project in the works called "Project Xenocide". It is a game being developed by X-Com fans all over the world, and they are always looking for more people to join in. You can read the FAQ here, the 1.0 specification here and visit the official page here. So I want to urge all Aftermath/X-Com fans out there to contribute to this project in some way. It can be everything from joining the team to donating money. And feedback are always welcome of course. As for the project itself, they hope to have a running version sometime in 2004, and with YOUR help they just might. Take a look at their geoscape if you wish to "sneakpeak" their project. Bastiaan
It's been a while since I checked the site, but I am impressed, they have been quite busy, I checked out there concept art, and I like a lot of it, like the crafts and tanks they have made, also the soldier in the equipment screen looks cool, I downloaded the globe too, you can already zoom and turn. You should check it out people.
Cpl. Facehugger
It is good to finally get recognition! In truth, we are further along than people realize, in fact, we just need to do some ok a lot of coding, a few creative texts, and some models and we will have v1 done. A new alpha with some new features will be released some time soon.
Bastiaan
I especially like the "V22 Osprey" inspired craft, will be the transporter I assume, very nice model.
Cpl. Facehugger
Yup, thats going to be our skyranger. The others, especially the lightning and the firestorm look beautiful as well. Plus, we are going to use a special effect on all our alien-tech models to make them look extra special.
Slaughter
I should have posted this ages ago. I just keep forgetting things . Have had A LOT to do lately... Anyway, looking forwards to the next alpha, not to mention the v1.0! Keep up the good work!
samsmithnz
I'm disappointed with Project Xenocide. I've been following it for quite some time and I haven't seen anything except for some geoscape screens.

Cpl. Facehugger
Well, all users (not guests) can view the workshops. Only people working on the project can post there. I don't know why you can't see the workshops, perhaps you should consult stewart or micah? (the 2 admins.)
Bastiaan
Hey, I found the Lightning and the interceptor, I hope the Joint Strike Fighter will be just as cool.
Cpl. Facehugger
Wait, did you see the current lightning? Or did you see the one that looks like a larger, sleeker interceptor?
Bastiaan
Looks a bit alien, purple-ish lightning, two circular red "fans"on the wings and two tailfins.I have seen the other one too, it's more a "delta" shape right.

If so, the forum requires email validation, and if it is yours, you'll have to either re-register with a valid address, or let me know the real one and I can fix it. Cpl. Facehugger
Yup, you saw the current lightning. Just wait until we apply the nice sheen to it, it will look beautiful. Hell, it would even make me build a lightning just to look at it! And Welcome to the Crack gaming expierence that is aftermath!
Slaughter
Hi Micah Good to have you with us! And keep up the good work with Xenocide! I'm trusting in you, Facehugger and the others to give me the part of X-Com back that Aftermath did not . Aftermath is a great game, and I'm enjoying myself imensly, but it isn't X-Com. Oh, when I'm through my exams and Christmas I may even considder joining you if you find any use for me .
Bastiaan
Will xenocide use X-COM terms, as I have seen people talk about X-Force, X-Net instead of X-COM and Ufopedia, but the aliens are our old friends, what is the intention, to let it take place in the X-COM universe with a few little things changed to stay out of legal troubles? You are exactly correct in your latter assumption, Bastiaan. We will make whatever changes to make it legal, and keep whatever names would not be considered infringing on the original game's copyrights. -Micahmicah@projectxenocide.comXenocide Team
Bastiaan
Very wise decision, won't be here to follow the project next few months but I will pick it up next year to see the progression.
Slaughter
Just tested the new alpha. NEAT! ;) Soooo, will you finish the durned thingy! Loved the glossary (net something )!
MicahDG
I'm glad you like it. The x-net demo is but a taste of what out art and creative text departments have accomplished. We would have included more, but people would start griping about having to download too big a file And Slaughter, regarding your earlier comment about joining out project after your schooling - you are welcome to do so. I'm sure there's 'something' you can help with

Cpl. Facehugger
Thanks. We are working hard on it. Actually, what you have seen in the X-net demo has really only been a test. The real game will have rotatable models in place of static pictures, a uniform interface, etc. Just wait and see what we are cooking up for the Xcom community! sigget
Nice work, im looking forward to try it, the screenshots looked really nice. Where did you get the earth-texture for the geoscape? It looked like a high resolution texture, is it from the living earth project or from some other source?
