The Veteran
Hey hey everybody! Firstly thank you Pete for this forum and thankyou Munkeylord for the first spam... :hmmm: I've only ever used XComUtil to mod UFO and I only used it to make the game more fun and realistic... That's not cheating ... It just means that if I lost funding a few years ago and now I have a 100% success rating I can get the country back onside by putting their funding level up slightly so that they begin to like me again. At the same time I take about a million dollars from XCom to even it out a little. I just wondered what everyone else does with XCom Util. What are the newer functions that I've never heard of and what do they do?
Munkeylord
lol, well the first "spam" was me getting sick of typeing up a topic and it not showing up, so finally i just started typeing "testing".....did that about a dozen times and it finally showed up! guess tammy fixed it or something.....but anyways, i use xcomutil to replace the .dat files for my xcom mods. i haven't really messed with anything else other than the difficulty settings and the alien replacement settings.....i should try that though. hehehe...........ok i'll go now
Hobbes
I like to give myself the weapons upgrades (especially the heavy laser) but I use it most to try new things or to make it harder. I always use the research of captive aliens help option to make it tougher and sometimes I play UFO on TFTD terrains. One setting that I love playing is going against an Ethereal battleship crew (complete with Sectopods and BB launchers) in the terror site terrain. They really turn into some nasty fights. Jman4117
40 mutons in a medium scout! Makes things interesting.
BladeFireLight
I think the hybrid games are really cool. I can't wait for the full hybrid games (land and water on the world map) to be compleated... but all we need is to decod where the texture images are so we can change one to water and the rest to land. this of corse would work in both UFO and TFTD. but once the texture location is found I suspect TFTD will be done first bacause of it's larger table size.. -Blade FireLight
NKF
One other option that's available is to disable psionics. There are times when feel like playing purely tactical combat and ignore the psionic aspect, well, there you go. You can even go the other way and give all the aliens psi skill, though I'm not entirely sure if the unit AI will know how to use the skill, as only a few ranks (for non-ethereals) know how to use psi. Oh, and then there's the swap sides option. That's neat, particularly for the multi-part missions in TFTD, where you can keep playing as the aliens and end up on the next level fighting other aliens. An army of lobstermen under your control is very nice, I must say. Sometimes I wish XComutil would swap the civilian sprites to X-Com sprites though (it's possible). Particularly for TFTD, since the TFTD civilian sprites don't seem to be stored in the same order as most other sprites, so they tend to walk backwards when under your control, which can be rather distrubing to look at sometimes. - NKF
Jman4117
It is best to disable mind control when you swap sides with the aliens if not the xcom troops with start using mind control without psi amps.
