Alitorious
Aaahhh! Nooo! What did you do! I mean, wow. That's a real good way to turn everything completely upside-down. I was not expecting what you did one bit, but looking back I probably should have. I want to hate you for this, but I just can't. Great job, FullAuto. I don't think even I realized how hooked you've got us (or at least me ) on your fic. It's a real compliment to your writing skills, when a dramatic turn like this feels as dramatic as it is. I leave with just this one comment: You'd BETTER keep writing the rest of it or ELSE!!

FullAuto
Thanks to computer error, I've just lost the installment I was about to post. That's ten thousand words or so down the toilet. God, I hate technology at the moment.
JellyfishGreen
I feel for you, dude. As much fun as a brick out the window with a string to your testicles. No possibility of auto-recover?
FullAuto
Nope. Whole comp is knacked. Still, writing it all out again should be fairly quick, I've already done it once.
JellyfishGreen
Just caught up on my reading. Characters are still amazingly consistent/believable. PEEEETE! NOOOO! Don't do it! If I follow, the hits are being carried out by the Opposition who somehow have access to CIA hitmen, they thought the loss of funding would shut X-INV down but due to the sudden injection of cash (from the El Rey op, which the Opposition don't know about and El Rey haven't been able to trace) they are taking it into their own hands to cripple X-INV further. Right? Poor Kev. Hope Lukas pulls through. Wonder who found Lukas, and what they found beside him.
FullAuto
Right. Glad I'm consistent, at least.
FullAuto
Well, close to the hundred-thousand word mark and closing on two years of working on this damn thing.I love it, really. Except when my computer crashes and I can't retrieve ten thousand words. All those bruised fingertips for nothing. Bastards. Anyway, that's the first big story arc (whatever THOSE are) over, and a new one started. Can't believe the thread has over 1,500 views, either. Most of them aren't mine, I swear! FullAuto
Thank you to: JFG (Constant Reader), Skonar (.45 calibre nitpicker, late but rabid), Alitorious (Where's the Foreshadowing, Goddamn it?), Veteran (Irregular Fanfic Fanatic), Pete (Site builder, without whom this fic would be in a desk drawer), A Certain Girl (without whom I would never show anything I write to anyone), and everyone who reads my fic, and has got it up to....holy sheeyat, 2,001 views. And counting. If I forgot anyone, well, what can I say, I'm retarded.
Skonar
I am very impressed now that I caught up, although the size of 'agents' is pretty damn daunting. XD I like the gunshot descriptions, BTW, and stuff like the doped up gulf war guy whom gets a good hit off've his crazy-drugs only to get his head removed, etc. *Thumbs up of approval*
FullAuto
Thank you. I hope you all know what the moral of the story is, kids. DON'T DO DRUGS. You'll get your freaking head blown off.
FullAuto
Well, it's 92k words and counting, and quite frankly I'm just hitting my stride. I hope you aren't all daunted by the size of it, 50k words is equivalent to a short novel, and I'll soon have hit twice that, so it's about say....400-500 pages if it was a book? That's not that much! I can't be arsed to work it out exactly.Who reads it, anyway? It's got more than 2,000 views (minus say 100 of mine for accessing it to post new pieces and do revisions), and I only know of Skonar, Vet, Alitorious and JFG who read it. So unless they've looked at it 500+ times each...come on, own up, I'm REALLY curious. My writing isn't good enough to elicit that many repeat viewings from those four, so who else is looking?Let me know.... P.S. If you're ashamed, just PM me and I'll out you at the first opportunity. P.P.S. By 'out you at the first opportunity' I do of course mean I will never breathe a word of your secret shame.
Alitorious
So unless they've looked at it 500+ times each... Well, it is a good fic... I guess if you're really curious, you can keep refreshing the page to see who's on the "X Users are reading this topic:" thing. Just refresh once every five minutes for the next forty eight hours, and you might catch a couple guys sneaking in looks on your pic. (Like you did me? And I thought I was so stealthy-secrety about it, too ) And we're (or maybe just me) never daunted by a large fiction! Why, whatever can we do when faced with a long, engrossing, book (or electronic medium) that is impossible to put down (or minimize) but read said book (or electronic medium) until either we fall asleep between the pages (or keyboard) or, to our horror, read up to the point where the book ends (*gasp!*) or to where the author has not yet written further pages (*double-gasp!*) and ultimately forcibly exticrate ourselves from said reading with the acute pains of longing for more? Uh... can someone translate back to me what I just said? Curse early-morning postings that happen when not sleeping as is usually common at this time! FullAuto
I didn't 'catch' anyone, Alitorious, you incriminated yourself by posting in this thread! Besides, I think anyone swhould be able to read any fic they like without fear of me going 1984-crazy.I'm just sort of interested in who reads it. I've no doubt a substantial chunk is just folk clicking on it at random while looking through the fic section, but I guess I just like to dream of dedicated readers.... Alitorious
No, I remember. You were all like this:"Ha! I caught you reading my fic! I DEMAND OPINIONS" Er... something along those lines.

FullAuto
Look. August 24th - 2,001 views. September 2nd - 2,100 views. So 99 views in little more than a week. See what I mean? Neither Alitorious, Vet or JFG are on here every day, though Skonar is a regular visitor, but there's no way he's looking at it half a dozen times a day. sir-roosio
Sorry FA, I've been reading it during my luch breaks at work (at past my lunch breaks, lets hope the IT monitors were napping ) but havent posted here as I actually couldnt find the Fan Fic pages and found your story using Search. So-having come from nothing and read it all through in 4 or 5 sittings here is my opinion. . . . .F**king cracking! Non stop action, realistic references to weapons and believable Special Forces tactics (you've surpassed Chris Ryan on that count by a country mile, and he was actually IN the SAS ferchrissakes!). The varied range of (suicide) missions you've sent the Kamikaze commandos on is a good move, keeps the story fresh and stops it getting repetitive, i was dreading a situation where the russian mission was constantly repeated with different terrain (kind of like the medal of honour series?) but that has most certainly not happened. The atmosphere on the first mission was papable, esp. before the aliens actually attacked. Kinda reminded me of the scene you get in horror films when everyones nice and relaxed and having a damn good joke around the campfire, and you KNOW that any minute now the claret will be EVERYWHERE. Was also fun to see the character of Lukas developing, from the straight laced efficient German soldier-droid, to seeing him start wisecracking and showing Rooster Cockburn qualities (thats true grit to any non-western fans). Killing main characters, FANTASTIC move. Wish more authors did that, because from now on I'll be afraid to get too attached to any character because NO ONE IS SAFE Damn Heckler and Koch G3's, they get everywhere! Now we've got a new character to get used to. . .an arse kicking female no-nonsense cop with a penchant for handguns. Lets hope she doesnt get to interview an alien in a hockey mask (Hello Clarice. . o, I mean May). Correct me if I'm wrong, but there definatley seem to be influences of Andy McNab and Shaun Hutson (among others) though you've scaled the latters ummm. . .'detailed' gun shot damage descriptions down somewhat (i only noticed one relaxing Sphincter in the whole thing, as opposed to one every page in SH). Not that their prevailent, just the odd description you've written that seems to have echos, yet no more. Lastly, only one gripe. Your reference at the very start to a 'boot' on the Landrover where they stowed the weapons. I imagined the landrover being a Defender, the only boot in them being wellingtons, they simply have a back door. However if it is a Freelander (or possibly a Disco', i cant remember with them) thats fine. It just jarred my imagination slightly. Other than that, keep writing, you have a gift, and it is a gift to be shared with all who wish to share it.
FullAuto
Praise indeed, SR, thank you. I am humbled. I am pretty sure the model Land Rover used by the SAS is a 5-door (I think it's a Freelander) as opposed to the classic 3-door Defender. This confused me so much at first I had to go and check it out. I had a sudden moment of unreality when I wondered if there WAS a 5-door.
FullAuto
Hmm. I've got to say, it could be the 5-door Defender, but the ones I've seen look most like the Freelander. They have the more rounded look, rather than the boxy shape of the Defender. It's definitely not the crew-cab one, the boot is a integral part of the car rather than a separate hard/soft top section like the crew cab one. sir-roosio
AFAIK special forces (including bomb disposal etc.) on domestic duties tend to drive the 5 door defender like this one: https://www.broadspeed.com/images/car_imgs/Defender_110_Td5_Station_Wagon_5_Door.jpg It's a lot more rugged and versatile (also looks a lot harder) than middle class housewifes school run favourite: the Freelander https://www.autogazeta.com/g/422/Freelander_new.jpg Basically, the main problem I would see with a freelander is that it doesnt have 'Proper' 4-wheel-drive, it has intelligent diffs, or something stupid like that, also it doesnt have a 'low range' gear box, which is a huge advantage offroad as it gives the wheels a lot less speed (with more power) so that you dont dig yourself into the ground when you tap the throttle on wet mud. so if the boys had had to go offroad at any pont, a freelander is more likely to get stuck. You can also get a crew-cab defender which looks like this.https://www.truckworld.com/Shows-Events/97-German-Auto/German19.jpg Very anal I know, but living on a farm I know about land rovers.<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
sir-roosio
hmmm, why did my edit double post? FA, could you delete one please. Could possibly be either the Discovery https://www.avonhill.com/thumbnails/sport_utility/1995_LandRover_Discovery1.jpeg Or if you want a posh-as-fu*k offroader the Range Rover https://www.playerscarrental.com/Range%20Rover%202005.jpg These seem to fit your description.
