Take that, writer's block.

I know it's short, but the rest will join it soon.

Phew.

Well, the good news is I've developed more than a passing fondness for the characters, and though this forum might not be entirely suitable for some of the story sections, I'll post what I can and do something imaginative with the rest, see if I can swing some webspace from my ISP or something. I'm afraid it's only going to get more adult from here.

While the site was down, I've written a bit more and it's posted, so go and read it. Go on. Stop reading this and go and read it.

Off you go!

Now that you're back after reading it, you'll be glad to know that the next part will be the conclusion, and after that, well, you'll see! Unless I die or WWIII breaks out or something. :(

The boys have a lot to do.

Additionally, if the length is a problem for anyone, please speak up. This bit was meant to be shorter but it just growed and growed, and to be honest, I don't really have any say over how long it is, you know? The story wants to be told, and it wants to be the length it wants to be. If it takes five thousand or fifty thousand, it wants to be told. But if the length, or anything else, is causing problems (Don't like a character? Want to see them die horribly in a freak glazing accident? Think my references are rubbish?) tell me! I'll see what I can do.

Well.....here we are. :(

I hope you've enjoyed the trip so far. We've already passed the fifty-thousand word mark (the minimum requirement for a piece of writing to be considered a novel) and...yes, that's right, we. You lot and me. :(

What? You think I'd be this far without you? Hmm. You know, I kind of doubt that. We've still got a while to go too. I can't tell you all the places, but there's Puerto Rico, Rendlesham Forest, Los Angeles, the jungles and city barrios of various South American countries, a wood somewhere in the south of France...to tell any more would spoil it. :(

I'm sure you can live with the curiosity, right? I mean, if I was to say Project Blue Book was to come up, then of course you'd be intri...aw, crap, sorry, meant to keep that under my hat.

If you lot want to drop in and tell me what you think, do so, please. All the bad and all the good. See, unless there's a massive X-Com revival (fingers crossed) I'm writing this for you people, right here, right now, exclusively only on this site. No one else.

There. Don't you feel privileged? Don't you feel all warm and squidgy inside? No? Well, tough. Pretend you do. I'm not expecting paragraphs of praise, just a quick "Kev's crap, kill him." or "More head shots." that sort of thing. I'll leave the critiques to the English professors who examine my legacy.

Yeah, right. :(

P.S. If you've been with it from the start, or you found it later, it doesn't matter. Thank you for reading it. That's what it's there for.

Great work on the writing, as usual. :(

Just one thing: I've noticed that in your action scenes, you tend to do it like this:

Something happens.

Somebody does something.

Somebody responds.

That happens.

This explodes, shattering shrapnel and whatever into somebody's eyes.

Somebody shoots him while the guy's running around, clutching his eyes.

Then something else happens.

Another person does this.

And so forth...

Do you see what I'm getting at? It does provide a sense of how things just keep happening, one thing after another, and works for the action scenes. But then it's also kinda impersonal. But I only really noticed it when Kev got psi-attacked. It kinda felt more like the psi-attack was just a sidenote. If I was writing it, then I would've actually focus on Kev's experience, what he felt and thought. Even tuning out Lukas' actions, if you have to. You've already established that they're all competent at mowing down everything with guns. :( Maybe next time focus on the psi-afflicted guy, and make it seem like a "holy sh--! What the f---ing h--- was that? The f---ing f---er was in my f---ing mind!"

(Obviously WITHOUT the extensive f-bombs, of course. :()

But I'll let you know that I didn't notice the 'action-sequence style' was actually 'action-sequence style' until Kev got psi-attacked.

(Hrmm... I've been writing this post over the space of an hour. I forget exactly where I was going with this...)

Uhh.... pi! 3.1415...!! Yay for pi!

Just... keep going on. You've got good writing, and all anyone can really nitpick on is how you're presenting the story, which is entirely every person's style. Their own. It isn't designed by committee, it's user-defined. Blahblahblah....

Oh, and can't wait for the next installment! (If only I updated my posts in the UFO fic as much as you did. :( )

Well, you said that you liked this type of... erm... whatever you call it. Shredding, or obliterating, or... something.

Hrm... but if there are "lingering effects" of the psi-attack on Kev, there's a surprising lack of foreshadowing to that effect. :(

But, of course, what do I know, eh? :(

The next bit will be up soon. But until then (I'm holding it hostage, you see) would anyone care to offer their views as to the length of the 'episodes'? Was the first one too short? Have the others been too long? Should they be of a uniform length? Should I stop interrogating you poor people and get on with writing? And so on and so forth.

Hmm. You might be right there. I've been cursing myself for not emulating the size of the first part (about 8k words) and regarding it as the epitome, really. Chopped down, short sharp and to the point. But each part is different. That's food for thought, thank you.

I know, I know, I'm writing, I'm writing! I'm working on a post for the main fic, plus two other non-xcom projects, plus the ideas for another three, so bear with me. *PLUG* And while you're doing that, go read Skonar's X-Com chronicles. You won't regret it. *PLUG*

Having just quit my job, I should now have some time to write! Who's been reading it, anyway? It's nearly up to one thousand views. Well, keep it up, whether you're just going over it again or wading through it for the first time.
