FullAuto
Just had a thought. I don't want to muck with anyone's timelines or characters, so unless someone else is already doing it, I'd like to do a fic about the X-Com "Agents", the people who find the alien bases some times and notify you in the monthly reports. I could quite easily do this and not foul anything else up, and without using anyone else's characters too. Any thoughts?
bevan
just go for it. sounds different but good
Hobbes
A very interesting fact about X-COM to write about How do an 'agent' finds out where a base is? By interrogation of abduction victims? Comparing unknown radar tracks? By identifying and arresting hybrids in the middle of the street? And what about the countries? How do their leaders suddenly decide to get all cozy with the aliens? Fanfics about this would be great....
M. Hoz
That kind of plot might lack a strong enemy character (someone to hate, for Example Mutons),that is unless you plan to include the MIB in the Story too...
FullAuto
It's an idea. I was planning to have the agents use UFO activity, abduction victim reports etc to find the bases but as for the MIB, do they have an official place in the UFO fiction or is it just the usual generic scaring witnesses, doing cover-ups stuff? Ki-tat Chung
one other question, how would you know at what point of the story the particular thread came from? would you post a "blank" in the actual fANfic or explain at the start of each story? Hobbes
According to an interview I once read about UFO the Gollops wanted to have MIBs on the game but that feature didn't made it into the final game. You also have the references on the UFOPedia that the Sectoids want to develop alien-human hybrids. Other than that it's up to your imagination
FullAuto
Ki-tat, I think I'd just explain at the start of each story. Or at least, at the start of the story. It could be made to fit the existing timeline quite easily. I know about the Sectoids wanting alien-human hybrids. Fitting them into a story......hmm. Interesting. bevan
the countries' intelligence agencies looking for the base would become annoying if they tryed to seize alien stuff from you
FullAuto
Wouldn't that be a complication and a half? You're sat there, scoping a base out and all of a sudden CIA or MI5 or Mossad storm out of hiding and either arrest you or start shooting at you. That's pretty much the last thing you'd need. bevan
i think it would be Murphy's Law in action.

Fox
I wanted to incorporate this into my Fic as well. I imagined those "agents" as James Bond like guys, who went around the world, ferreting out alien agents and finding info on the aliens and their bases. Excellent concept, a fic would be awesome. JellyfishGreen
"Due to budget constraints, your disguise for infiltrating the Sectoid base will consist of knee pads and this plastic Halloween mask, plus a pencil for poking some eyeholes." FullAuto
I'm afraid infiltration wont be happening, they'll just find the bases, put their feet up and watch the x-com squaddies clean the place up. Though if they really fancy a challenge....
JellyfishGreen
According to James Bond, the only way to verify you've infiltrated the right base is if you are captured, tied up with your latest woman, and hauled in front of the Evil Overlord so he can give you a tour of the command centre. And I must admit, it's worked for me so far.
Hobbes
You forgot to mention the fight with the pack of hungry Reapers as the evil Floater commander decides to go back to the command center, where eventually you defeat him there after you take out the Reapers with a Medikit before escaping from the exploding base on a captured UFO. Oh, and I nearly forgot the part where the X-COM commander hails you on the Hyperwave Network to congratulate you and catches you and your latest female (with an amazon like body) conducting genetic experiments on the bridge of the UFO. JellyfishGreen
Â Naw, mate, the real work is in the infiltration. Once you've flagged the base for XCOM's attention, the little details like escaping your digestive vat are usually pretty simple to carry out in the confusion and panic surrounding the XCOM soldiers storming the base. Wait until a blaster bomb explosion distracts (or obliterates) the guards, and then...
FullAuto
...slip away in the confusion. I'll have to remember that one.
JellyfishGreen
Look, if you're not going to pay attention, you've no business being in this spy school. The hard work may be over, but there's still details to take care of! - Rescuing your woman in the confusion- Eliminating or avoiding the groups of aliens running down the corridors in the confusion- Final showdown with the base commander, disposing of his head goon, and making a witty comment about it- Taking his escape pod and leaving him to face the XCOM squad alone These and the other details mentioned by Hobbes will be on the written test. Ideas on how to pass the time while you and your woman are waiting for escape pod re-entry and recovery are optional. But do try and avoid damaging valuable equipment, like Hobbes did when he "accidentally" gave the Hyperwave transmitter a good swift kick.
Pumpkinhead
You forgot to mention your uncanny ability to hit every alien you shoot, whilst they fire off round after round and never hit you even once
Hobbes
But do try and avoid damaging valuable equipment, like Hobbes did when he "accidentally" gave the Hyperwave transmitter a good swift kick.Does that mean I have to follow traffic laws when driving the HWP to escape the Cyberdisks who are after me on a high-speed chase? I mean, I know I'm not supposed to use the rocket launcher to blow up gas pumps to create a distraction but unless I can endanger the life of civilians by driving on the sidewalk I think I'll have problems dodging the plasma fire from the Cyberdisks.
