FullAuto
But methinks FullAuto is gettting protective of his characters. Maybe we should quit killing them off so easily? Are you sure? I could knock out a few million more and you can get a death camp going, if you want... Kill away, I can always comeup with more! Yes, more! @Snikers: Squad 3 doesn't have to be the squad of doom, you know? A shitload is approx. 20,000lbs.
Bomb Bloke
I dunno, I sorta have this mental vision of Fitz leading off soldiers never to be seen again, and coming back minus a few of his own appendages each time... But I dunno how believable that would be.

JellyfishGreen
"They count, right?" "No, they don't count." FullAuto - that was the most "Pulp Fiction" moment of this fic so far. Edit: re-reading the cleanup, after "Storm" gets sick over the smell of the alien, "Turmoil" gets to talk directly to Genega and to intimidate one of the diplomats. (This smells like "My new character is the best soldier to join Xcom EVAR", but only a little. We've had worse. ) If we're talking about Storm Turmoil's character in both cases, "Turmoil" was used as a nickname first, so maybe FullAuto could edit his post for the sake of consistency? storm turmoil
sorry about the character shoving. really, I just wanted to split time with him and Dana, so I had her put him on. the intimidation was actually not something I thought out, it just hit me, so I put it in. I see that it can be seen as spotlight hoggin in hindsight though. I guess I'm just a little nervous at using the other characters yet.
FullAuto
Don't worry about it, s-t. I know I'm probably guilty of much worse. No doubt some cruel sod will come along and confirm this shortly. They pick on me, you know. Characters have to die? Mine. Fic dies? I have to give it mouth-to-mouth and massage it's heart. Dog gets run over? I have to scrape it up.The persecution just never stops. Anyway, I'll get my head down and start scribbling Pickering's little mission to America. FullAuto
*BLUB* But I really need the bathroom break, this chair is starting to get mouldy! Still got one more character to come up with for squad 3, if anyone wants to have another.

The Veteran
ok this is a flying visit so I don't have time to say hi... Ok I guess I have just about enough time to say hi... But that's bvesides the point! Point is... I just posted in the fic (read it first) and despite how it reads, that wasn't me writing what I wanted, it just kind of took itself in that direction! (just like Rick eh) But, the point is (getting to it slowly) despite how it reads (that first despite how it reads is kind of redundant, this is the real despite how it reads) Rick is not mentally weak. He's not a superman so he's still vulnerable to this sort of attack but he is by no means weak, quite the contrary so the plan goes. I want Rick to be highly Psi resistant as he is the leader of the pack as it were and it simply doesn't fly when the boss starts going silly. I really just wrote it up this way because someone had him start lighting up the helicopter and I needed a cop-out clause > I'm home for the weekend so will be online Fri-Sat-Sun. Someone point Tammy in my direction because I very nearly spoke to her for the first time in over a year last time I was home and then I left But anyway that's off the increasinly blunt and slippery point once again... If someone does a base post before then (please someone do a base post before then) Rick wants a checkup with whichever doctor is into this sort of stuff which concludes what I've just said. Once again point being (besides blunt and increasingly slippery) he has above normal psi defence, probably low attack but that's neither here nor there (but presumably somewhere inbetween at an unconfirmed place to be confirmed at a later date) So! Whoever it was attacking him was presumably an incredibly high ranking alien (or human) (or woman for the Monty Python's out there) trying to break squad morale or just drop the human leader in the do which is a fairly sneaky, devious and stick a tail on and call it a weasel cunning to be fair... And I sinserely hope you have as much fun reading this post as I did writing it because I've had a terrible day but seem to be coming out roses and adopting a very silly mood for the evening! May it only go on as it began (by which I do not mean a big bang, one of those everyday would do some serious damage to the old ear drums...) Silly! Speak to you all at the weekend, and tell me who you are on msn because I get confused!!! Chin up guys it's nearly (but not nearly enough) Friday!!!! Bomb Bloke
We have a psi doctor to 'check up on this sort of stuff'? Cool! Ok, so it sounds like it's world wide common knowledge that X-Com turned up at the snowfield. Oh well.

Snikers
Probably not world-wide knowledge. I think Genega was referring to after the war, when the media does whatever it does after any wars. EDIT: Marvin Rice's story tied up. Ugh...I'm so bad at this.
storm turmoil
for the problem with Rick and his psi strength factor, could we possibly flip it on its head and say that Rick was affected, not because he was psychically weak, but rather , he was only affected because he is psychically strong, but doesn't (obviously) know it yet? that is, he was affected because he was actually more open to psionic activity of all kinds, and only suffered because he didn't know how to close his mind? I know that's not exactly the picture the game itself presents, but we have more degrees of freedom with this than a 2 point stat system. it could actually be that fact that sets the breakthrough on some of the other psi related researches.
FullAuto
So, he had more ability, and this left him more open? Could work. We could have people who are psionically 'dead' and simply can't be affected, or those that have the ability, are very strong in it, but are easily affected before they master it, and all sorts inbetween. That would be more interesting than a simple strong/weak offence/defence system.
Bomb Bloke
I'd expect folks who practise yoga and that sort of thing would be more open to psionic attack, as they can go into a trance more easily and actually work at opening their minds. These are obvious problems against mind controlling aliens. That works well with Turmoil's idea - if you can open your mind to attack, that in itself can leave you open to return fire. I prefer the idea of grunts being more open then brains, myself. But take our second last mission - Fitz was 'influenced', Brute was 'controlled'. Methinks that soldiers who are expecting psi attacks will be paying more attention to their actions then soldiers who are expecting all the thoughts running through their mind to be their own, but a mentally weak soldier is a blatant risk in the field. Bomb Bloke
They're more fun to keep around, I think. They'll turn into paranoid wrecks, and so will the soldiers who work with them.
JellyfishGreen
BB: Are you trying to say something about that Sectoid cloak? I didn't have it pegged as anything special, even Earthly in origin. I'll write a post shutting down clone 343 or whatever his name was. Yay! This fic is moving as if it were warm-blooded! Vet posted! PS. anyone up for correcting his spelling/grammar errors? The Veteran
Tall for a Sectoid with an orange cloak? I think he's trying to say that it's an Ethereal and not a Sectoid at all! ...
