Bomb Bloke
Ok, I'm sure you all saw this post here coming, but Vet's got me all confused. Hiroshi Escalante is supposed to be squad two's leader, and Gaston is not on squad one. What gives...?
FullAuto
Er, Duchante is in squad two. Someone hold Vet down while I get the red-hot poker.
Bomb Bloke
You're kidding me. Surely he didn't make a mistake. And here was me thinking I'd made one, and after all the time I spent making that huge list (most of which was created out of JFG's list) saying who was in what squad. If he did make a mistake, you can hold him. I got dibs on that poker.
FullAuto
Typical. He joins up and goes power crazy. He'll be telling us to call him sir next and click our heels and salute. You ALWAYS get dibs on the poker though.....
Bomb Bloke
I do not! This is the first time. You can have it the next two times running, if you're going to complain like that. So I take it Vet figured Gaston was on squad one, and he's not. Which makes Vet's entire post a bit odd. I guess he could keep the scene with Thomas and Rick if he sends Fitzwilliams off to ask about recruiting Howitz, but it's Gaston we want on squad three, so that'll have to be denied. An easy excuse, he's stuck on med duty as I wrote in my post... However, it seems Rick and Gaston don't get on, and I guess there are some previous posts about that. I still haven't had time to read the whole hulking thread, so if someone would care to explain...? Edit: The thought suddenly comes to mind that Vet might be offline for another week or two. If he pulls that again, as he did with Genega, there will be pain...
FullAuto
The thing between Rick and Gaston comprises the traditional English distaste for the French. That's it, basically. With Gaston being in squad two, Vet's post doesn't make any sense. I really don't know what we're going to do.
Zager
I just got my d20 Future manual. One thing I read in it that I'd like to mention here as I feel it will pertain to the next mission. It was in the Bughunters campaign: 'Their mission is to locate and destroy every hostile alien organism they encounter. Most of the time, however, their mission degenerates into "stay alive until the evac ship arrives."'

Bomb Bloke
"Ah." Bruheme nodded knowingly."Listen, did you do that to Jacobson on purpose?"abu Rahman fought the urge to lunge. "No."Bruheme threw an arm over his shoulders. "You're alright, buddy." Rubenstein, not Jacobson, I think... Erm, fool that I am, what is this stockade of which you speak? It sounds ominous. I presume it won't keep Fitzwilliams off duty, we've got to send him to a terror site in less then a week, don't we?
FullAuto
I was drunk, alright! The stockade is generally just a small block of cells. He'll be held there but will be released if a mission comes up.
Bomb Bloke
Ok, another thing with Vet's post, he call Fitzwilliams unranked. I guess that's explainable; Vet wouldn't have trawled through the loads of posts in here, so he might have missed our 're-arrangements' with squad three. I've downloaded the entire fic so's I can read it... I'm going to update my summary page no end now. Fwahaha!
FullAuto
Well, technically...no, actually, that's a good point. Well done BB.
Bomb Bloke
Ok, I've finally read the entire fic. ... Yes, all of it. So now I have some clue as to what Vet was on about. Rick never actually yet BECAME the leader of squad 1. So I guess his post about 'surrendering his position' stood for him taking the job. Howitz saying Rick stood down was entirely wrong; but given that squad 1 STILL didn't have a leader around that point, I'll leave my post as it was for the sake of general confusion. In the mean time, he thought the meeting Genega had with the squad leaders was with - I presume - the training leaders, which is why he might call Fitzwilliams unranked. Fitzwilliams is squad leader for squad 3, but he's announced in the fic as having taken over the training leader role, seemingly unofficially. I guess Vet missed the 'squad leader' bit. As for Gaston, he is indeed in squad 2, and Rick is in no position to transfer him to squad 3, leader of squad 1 or not. On another note, there is nothing stopping the squad leaders from taking over squad training. Meaning that Fitzwilliams doesn't have to pay the slightest attention to the training leaders if he doesn't want to. ... Oh, and I made some slight changes to my heads-up thread, too. A feat which bumps me over the 1000 post mark, actually... Not including my off-topic posts, of course. FWAHA! MY POST COUNT IS OVER 1000!! MWUHAHAHA!! Everytime I got close... Every single time... Pete reset the forums. BUT NOT THIS TIME, PETE! NO ONE COULD STOP ME! BWAHAHA! *runs off cackling and dribbling* Just a note, one of the first tweaks I made to my account when I became admin was to turn off my flood control. Today I found myself very thankful for that. And the final word, in case anyone is wondering, I'm on holidays. B)

Bomb Bloke
I'm going to type a thesis now. It will be long. I get the feeling that no one reads my longer posts (or more specifically, anything important I type ), but please try and bear with me. This will contain a lot of odd notes, but perhaps I'll spit out some interesting or important stuff. Though I get the feeling only FullAuto is going to read this anyway. So if I refer to anyone out there as 'you', FullAuto, I'm talking to you! Ok... Now I'm reading through this discussion thread, which is five times the size of the fic, but I'm not documenting this time so it shouldn't take me long. Besides which, I'm porting a few GB across the network from a stricken computer which needs surgery (starting with a chainsaw), so I've got time. Accoriding to the discussion, the fic has been heavily edited as it was written. For example, to begin with, there was a terror mission right at the start... I think. It's gone now, so I don't really know. Though I did find a post by Carlos refering to the "Kitat Chung Fanfic Massacre Of 2002". Loonie's first character (Loonie made Terrick) was also chopped. From what I read of the fic, there are still some bugs... For example, Green seemed to start out bunking with Wexford, but later Terrick magically ended up in Green's room. Just little things like that. A more interesting 'bug' was an announcement early in the fic that a laser pistol had been built. Editing that out would require tinkering in a few posts. The problem was the battery couldn't be linked to it. At the moment, things are rolling along the lines of 'no lasers yet', but it would be quite legal to start producing lasers any time... Like, for example, now. But more on development later. Different folks write at different times. Snikers, Zager and Alitorious write regulary, but not at all frequently. Others, Vet for example, spits out posts all the time (1 in 5 posts or there abouts is Vets). Other writers fade in and out a bit more randomly. JFG does not post often all, but when he DOES, he writes extensively, defining much of what is - and will happen. A good thing. One of the first craft X-Com owns is, wait for it, the Lightning. I have no idea why, it seems a ridiculous thing to do... I mean, I never build the Lightning in the game, but if it is ever decided to put it in the fic, then the name might be an issue. Maybe the craft design can go un-named, then get the name Lightning-2 after someone (Gia?) plows it into the ground. X-Com recruiting was supposed to stop about the point the first mission began. That kinda fell over as a rule, as squad three didn't really 'exist' by that point, and other soldiers have been killed. Zager or I will have to write a Gaston/Howitz post. That will be fun. I'll have to update the character profile of Howitz in the Character thread, as it really isn't up to much at the moment. A random quote:Ps. In the Squad listing, I *'d a number of the soldiers I used to 'pad' the ranks. Two extra bonus points for whoever figures out why those names are connected. 1 point deducted for using Google. I believe it was FullAuto who got the bonus points. Weapondry of characters seems to be MOSTLY limited to whatever X-Com hands out. This means characters shouldn't *really* use customised gear. However, there's nothing stopping them sneaking it in. *nods at Zager again* A discussion on wisdom teeth is in this thread somewhere. Interesting, I'd been wondering what was happening in my mouth... I thought I just had odd teeth, as they are very crooked. Ya learn something new every day. Terrick's introduction sparked a note from JFG, who noticed Green changing room mates. Fair enough. Speaking of which, those documents I wrote up paid attention to who was in what room, so I'll make a room mate list out of that later. I don't think Hankosha has yet noticed where I put Howitz. Concerning hair, a thing I was wondering about:They're highly trained special ops soldiers, each one of them capable of killing you in any one of a dozen ways. If they want long hair, who's going to stop them? X-Com's first real combat situation was a paintball war. I found that quite interesting. Ya see, it was a training situation not only for the soldiers, but the authors too, some of which immediately started super-heroeing with their characters. I'll finish my thesis here - for now. My brother has gone and rented a game, and dragged me away in chains... But I have plenty more to say.

I believe it was FullAuto who got the bonus points Swish! A discussion on wisdom teeth is in this thread somewhere. Interesting, I'd been wondering what was happening in my mouth... At least it's in this thread and not the actual fanfic. As for the hair issue, it's quite common to give elite units some leeway in their uniform and general dress, and as X-Com is the elite unit, it makes sense that they'd get a lot of leeway.BB, you're a scholar and a gentleman. A more exacting and precise evaluation of the fanfic I have not seen before. Bravo. I salute you.

JellyfishGreen
Yes. JFG is indeed our literary Shaft. Shaft!I can dig it. BB, that's quite some extensive work you've done there. I have some reading to catch up on, so nothing on the new-post-idea whiteboard from me yet. Congrats on reaching the kilopost. FA, I found which actress you meant, but I had to use IMDB, so no bonus points for me. Ah yes, the Fanfic Chainsaw Event... "Many Shubs and Zuuls knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of a Sloar that day, I can tell you" ..."Lightning" was more of an affectation of Vet rather than a reference to the Eleurium-driven craft in the game. It's an Interceptor with a fancy marketing name.
