The Veteran
Don't look at me... I always have to end the deadlock... I have other things to be busy with, someone else can do it this time!

Tammy
And we are down! Let's go find those aliens. :alien2: I'm assuming sectoids this go-round? If I weren't running on less than four hours of sleep and didn't have about five hours of work sitting behind me, I'd love to take a shot at this one. Maybe I can get in on the battle if it doesn't end too quickly.
Loonie
Umm......yes. How do we post now? Does one of us just make an uber-post of the whole battle or does each of us do an individual segment of the battle? (I post that Terrick has made it to the UFO for instance, then Warlord posts that he moved up and gave the order to move inside, then someone else posts that the team moved inside,....ect.) The Veteran
Loonie, you fool. When was the last time you saw Warlord around? But yes, that's what we'll be doing. Don't post that the whole battle is over in seconds. And bear in mind there is going to be a lot more activity than XTC told us. Two aliens is a massive underestimation of a medium scout... I'd say more like five? What's everyone think?
Loonie
Yup, five would be quite likely. And I meant Warlord as an example, not that he'd actually post, heh.
JellyfishGreen
arg lost my post. rewriting from memory. 5 sectoids, 2 in ship, plasma pistols and rifles, all this will come as a surprise to the troopers. "Greys" have childlike height and big black eyes. (I have an idea how the scientists come up with the "Sectoid" designation later.) Trigger mentioned he'd seen a recovered alien crash site but Carlos postulates no-one has seen more than bloodstains and lived. So have the troops been briefed on their potential enemy? Dunno. Sectoids don't respond to warnings, anyway, and will always run and hide or shoot rather than surrender. Lots of leafy jungle to disappear in - but sectoids will attempt to return to the UFO. Writing only for your character makes it sound like a sim not a fanfic. Try to have characters buddy up - write for both - or even fireteams of 4. Make it sound like Warlord is directing a pincer movement on the UFO over the ridge to the northwest. But yeah - segments, to give plenty of people a turn. This is the meat of the fic, after all. I'd like to play it as either all sectoids die or one dies in containment before we figure out the atmosphere (or something) so we recover little information. Will we be so lucky as to recover a power source and/or a nav computer? Or will it be taken out in the firefight? Edit: nice first battle post, Snikers. Google tells me Kevlar's glassy construction does help keep it from catching on fire, although specific plasma burn data isn't available.
Alitorious
I really doubt that the power source / computer will be destroyed in the game, as they can rarely be destroyed with terran weaponry. I'm pretty sure the power source can withstand a couple blasts of terran grenades, and the weak rifle bullets just "plink" off of it. I'm pretty sure the only time those units aren't recovered are when they're destroyed in the crash, or if you deliberately destroy them. Do we even have containment? Spaceman42
Go with a brig to start with. I mean, cryogenic suspension - or even those "guy in water-filled tube" deals - isn't likely to have been installed yet. You don't even know how big the stuff you're dealing with is, after all. Prison-type should work for the first bit; the scientists upgrade later, after the first sectoid dies.
The Veteran
Trigger mentioned he'd seen a recovered alien crash site but Carlos postulates no-one has seen more than bloodstains and lived. So have the troops been briefed on their potential enemy? It was Rick that said it but Trigger saw more of it as the pilots were being lazy at the time. Grizzly probably wandered about the base a bit too so he'd be another fountain of knowledge... Anyhoo, the way it stands if I remember correctly is that the original team at Pine Gap were all shown the creatures recovered and briefed on what the not too distant future had to offer... (After all people ask questions when their team is called Extraterrestrial Investigation!) The new arrivals have never seen an alien unless otherwise stated in their own past... They were obviously informed of the threat in the initial briefing though...
JellyfishGreen
A real pause in the creativity around these parts - and I can't even blame exams in my case But anyway, there's a tidbit posted for ya, and here's the background info. Snikers
Actually, the idea I was going for with Jennings is that the shot only grazed him, you know, almost a miss. Remember in the game, plasma will go in one end and out the other side of whatever armour humans seem to have. Or not. Whatever's good. I don't claim to be a good writer. JellyfishGreen
I'm pretty sure we'll realize how lucky Jennings was when we see one of these bolts actually hit someone full force. But feel free to mention the scorched earth where the ground took the brunt of the hit. JellyfishGreen
Hey Snikers, who is the "big guy" in the bug's sights? *spoiler*I've got half a post idea to take out shuwei and patrick with an alien potato grenade. If I can get hankosha's permission, that is.*end spoiler* I guess this bug is "Three of Six"?

Snikers
Wow, trigger, you've captured the essence of the rookie soldier perfectly! Anyone have plans for what goes next, or should I try and write something?
The Veteran
Lol, Trigger is the character Snikers, TJ is the real person! I'd say go for it Snikers. I did and I think that turned out pretty good I also point out that Carl is not necessarily dead... It would make more sense that he is (being filler and all) but he could survive technically... Up to you lot!
