JellyfishGreen
Ali: Can do. I predict a mysterious bug uncovered during shakedown testing that will prevent the use of the HWPs in the first mission. I also predict casualties - which will lead to stronger demands that the HWP be available for subsequent missions.Anyone care to wager on it? Spaceman: Niiice. Ever listened to "songs from the key of X"? I'm posting soon, I swear, and if anyone thinks of something after I post that should have gone in beforehand, PM me and I'll gladly edit and credit. The Veteran
I want Trigger back in time for the intercept! He'll be back pretty much spot on midnight so just hold on for a bit longer! As for the training, people with characters in the other two squads are just being lazy :hmmm: If you want to cover their training then you have to write about it! No tanks for first mission, check. Casualties are bound to crop up anyway. Something interesting for someone to follow (Not me I have two characters already) would be to make a real person out of the officer that Raz assaulted He'd make a good person for the fic I think, and he would still be pretty much expendable. Rasicar
Actually I was thinking about doing something like that. The officer that was assaulted actually would make perfect sense since Donovan "just made an enemy for life." At first I was thinking about having it be Major Ivan, but now that I think about it, the training officer would work just fine. However I was thinking, aside from having him be a universally controlled character, having said officer just be a royal prick. Think Sgt. Barnes out of Platoon, or any other equally anger prone individual from a war drama, and there you go. That way it could add a little spice to character interactions, especially when there might be some characters who might agree with his style *cough*Poison*cough* What does everyone else think? -Rasicar
The Veteran
I would have had him down to be a decent guy myself... With the major already being a complete arse I wonder if the fic really needs another! Maybe the officer could come and speak to your character and congratulate him. My guess would be that the Officers don't like the Major either!
Rasicar
works for me, I can see how that could work.
The Veteran
Come on guys! There is a UFO over africa and an interceptor within literally a few hundred miles! It doesn't take a genius to come up with the next post! Everyone complained about nothing interesting happening and now suddenly we're being invaded by alien saucers and still noone writes!!!!!!! Come on!!!

Snikers
What am I gonna do? All I have in Squad One is Jennings!
Tammy
Then write for Jennings and anybody else in squad one as long as you stay reasonably true to character.
Rasicar
Okay, ummm.. yeah... composing thoughts... If people don't mind, I was thinking about including Donovan in squad one so I could try to flush out how he would be with squad interaction and combat. (I tend to figure things out as I write and then edit later if necessary) Since, from what I've gathered through reading, it is only squad one heading out thus far due to the size of the UFO and the fact that it hasn't been designated as a terror ship, I was thinking about Hiller possibly having had an accident in training, not have them killed, but having them either rolled their ankle or other such misc. pain in the neck, or ankle in this case, injury that would hold him back from combat for about a week or so. I figure this is justifiable since from what i've scene in the character bios page, they are filler. -Rasicar
JellyfishGreen
Ouch! Two weekends of partial writer's block and my post becomes irrelevant! Thanks Carlos... Edit: OK, I can still rescue most of it. Teach me to spend so much time working instead of writing. I still have some in-flight stuff for Gia written for my next post. Remember Squad 2 is logically waiting in the Hangar, geared up, in case Warlord gets appendicitis or some such last-minute disaster. If Snickers or somebody doesn't mention it in passing, I will. Oh, and that's "Doc France" in the Skyranger cockpit who will tell Warlord to have everyone buckle in. Replacing Hiller with Donovan due to the turned ankle is perfectly acceptable and a classy way of doing it. Hiller is indeed filler and secretly he/she's relieved he/she wasn't given the first red shirt. Edit edit: Checked my source. "Colette Hiller" is female. PS: Moderators: Rasicar's posted twice by accident, please delete the first one. (I didn't ask him, but that's what appears to have happened.) The Veteran
While it's fine to knock someone out of the action temporarily it's best to make it a serious injury rather than trivial. This is an elite fighting force not Al Qaeda! JFish, I haven't seen the fic yet but if you haven't posted the in-flight stuff yet you should do soon. I want to use my pilot! Loonie
Heh, actually I kinda think that if Al Quaeda truly did 9/11 then I'd say they're quite elite. :dontgetit: Eh well but in any case. Interceptor post soon! We want to storm the UFO! And don't make it go kablooey in the air!
Rasicar
Thanks for letting me know about Hiller, fish. I was looking through the postings trying to figure that out and I always came up with 'C. Hiller.' Thanks again. Oh, and about that posting twice thing, didn't know. Oops. I'll be more careful in the future. |starts muttering something about what he gets for using a p.o.s. computer with a bad internet connection when posting|
The Veteran
No politics please Loonie, it has no place in fanfic. I want to post the intercept now but if JFish has this stuff to post then I still can't... Well I'll post something and see if I can't leave it open ended just in case. Enjoy! Edit: Just thought about what you said in the character thread Loonie. Hankosha has posted a stupidly short post in the fic. Two lines, two sentences, one of whic is not even part of the fic)What I'm doing is absorb that into my post somewhere and then delete the original. And Hank? Try it again and I'll cut your hands off
The Veteran
I know I'm double posting but I want to bring attention to this. I've cut my post short but I don't know how to proceed. The UFO was over Africa, making this perfect for Trigger. Now the UFO is suddenly in Indonesia... JFish, what the hell is going on with this saucer? They aren't meant to be that fast! Loonie
I really didn't have anything political in mind with Al-Quaeda. I was just considering as a terrorist cell. But forget about that. Onwards.
JellyfishGreen
Oh crap, did someone say Africa? (rereads...Carlos ) I was trying to figure what location would be logical for Trigger to divert to on the way back, but still reachable by Raven in normal UFO intercept window. Africa sounds a little off track, would Trigger's interceptor be able to fly to, say, Chad from Britain and then back to Australia on the same fuel load? If that sounds plausible then I'll edit my post, but if not, Carlos, are you listening? Vet, I'll straighten my plot ideas out and email them to you. Please send me Trigger's mission outline. If we agree on the storyline we can write two posts that don't clash. I have in mind just following the UFO and relaying back the fact that it landed in jungle, rather than a shootdown. This small scout isn't willing to get aggressive. Rules of engagement will change in the future and I'd like to hear plausible reasons for the change. So far I've got the subsequent UFOs just firing back to discourage pursuit, after what happened to the first one (pursued by fast aircraft, then engaged on the ground). But we may want to be more proactive after the first terror site. Edit: The Skyranger at present holds 10 members of Squad 1:1. Jack "Warlord" Thomas - HW and Commander, double-jobbing.2. Rick3. Tammy - Medic4. Martin Terrick5. Ed Dodge - Point6. Jennings7. Donovan8. Tim Day - Intelligence/Communications9. Patrick O'Malley10. Shu Wei Chen It is closed up and engines running on the launch platform, taxiied a little, and is about to get the go orders confirmed. I saw Loonie already mentioned a takeoff, but we need to give orders to buckle in, then he can fall asleep after a dramatic takeoff - please? Edit this into your post, Loonie, and mention DocFrance? Note in fast-response situations, the soldiers might be waiting on the runway for hours, then told to stand down if a UFO splashdown or something causes the mission to be scrubbed. Oh, and a "trivial" twisted ankle is a very good reason not to go on a mission, Vet, and can happen more easily than breaking a leg. That's one good reason for keeping filler characters around. Hankosha
O'malley's going to die. I'll make sure of it. Oh, and Tammy, make sure your character has the charm on her.
The Veteran
Kill him however you like Hank, so long as it's realistic and he doesn't take out seven aliens with him or something... :hmmm: And as far as I recall Poison still has the charm, not Tammy. Therefore it won't be on the mission, it'll be back at base. Hank, if you're planning something wierd with that charm you let us know first... :hmmm: It seems to lead to VERY strange posts! Rasicar
I'm adding an addendum to Fish's list of the people on the Skyranger for Squad 1. Namely marking on the side who is expendable (IE: everyone controls them and anyone can kill them) and who isn't just so we don't have to constantly go through various threads in the profile section figuring such stuff out. 1. Jack "Warlord" Thomas - HW and Commander, double-jobbing.2. Rick3. Tammy - Medic4. Martin Terrick5. Ed Dodge - Point -filler6. Jennings -filler (snikers, do you have killing rights on this one?)7. Donovan8. Tim Day - Intelligence/Communications9. Patrick O'Malley10. Shu Wei Chen - mortality rate high (fish, do you have killing rights?) If there are any corrections that need to be made, please message me so I can edit the post. Hopefully this will be of assistance to everyone once the main part of the combat starts. Also, do we have a consensus on where the UFO is going to touch down/be shot down? Fish & Vet, I believe that is your baby, as it were. If someone could do the same as above for squad 2 that would be great. I don't know if there have been any changes to it, or if anyone is planning on pulling what I did to get their character in the fighting.
Snikers
I have exclusive rights over Jennings' fate. **looks about suspiciously**
The Veteran
The only correction is that Warlord isn't a commander, he's the squad leader for squad one, though that isn't permanent yet. Hence the 'acting corporal'. Bear in mind that all of these soldiers are 'technically' rookies as we're following the way the game starts. Warlord is the best soldier in the general's eyes and therefore is acting as the higher ranking soldier until the first set of promotions. Edit:I completely forgot why I was writing this post! I have the squad rosters in front of me now Squad two isKilam Chung (Heavy weapons and temp. squad leader)K. Green (The G escapes me!)Cleo 'Poison' Andrews (mean pistol scout)H. Escalar (No idea on mortality or name but he's a permanent entry)C. Keller (wierdo with rifle )B. Dujardin (rifle armed medic)R.Ross (seems eager to die and has only a rifle so he probably will!)Gaston Duchante (The French demo expert I hate this guy!)Norton 'Stick' Wexford (rifle infantry don't ask about the callsign!)L.Wethers (no idea but permanent member of squad two) Squad three is:Igor Zhandovich (Heavy weapons)Paul Jasper (immortal and a pistol scout like his buddy Tim in squad one)J. Goldstein (a temporary rifle point who deserves to die with a that name)T. Steedman (another rifle wielding mortal. Kill at your pleasure)W. Paxton (Who are these guys?! Kill them all!)C. Dietrich (Never before has a medic been more expendable)M. Biehn (bloody spick by the sounds of it... I'll kill this one)Y. Yamanov (apparently permanent crew with a rifle)M. Kerr (possibly human controlled, the name is familiar)J. Ulbricht (Ditto Kerr, let's try not to kill these until we run out of germans, I mean rookies... ) In summary... I have a very vague idea of what I've just done so any help is welcomed! Squad three will be attending the first terror mission by the sounds of it. Alitorious
C. Bruheme is in squad three, as well. (Heavy Weapons) (And he's MINE to kill... all mine... mua ha ha!) I mean... uh...
Spaceman42
Ooh, and don't forget my Johann character [the mechanic I mentioned a while back.]. He'll be joining a squad as soon as there're casualties, if he can. I want him to die... Hmm. "Friendly fire" from a panicked soldaten seems like a good one. But, yeah. Probably have to be a squad 3 after a possible rearrange. I wonder if anyone else might get in...
