Loonie
say I gotta ask this. Which squad is Martin Terrick in? I wouldn't know since he came in rather late.
Spaceman42
I apologize if introducing the generics threw anything off. I wonder how long it'll take before O'Reilley starts getting hit on... Anyone want to lay [< Butthead > heh heh heh, he said lay] odds?
Snikers
You know how fast character development goes in this fic? I'd say the next time a number of chars gather atthe latest.
Alitorious
Well, I finally posted! Yay! I can finally not look at the fanfic forum in shame anymore ! Hrmm... I think Martin's ears would definitely prick up at the mention of the motion scanner device Daniel's thinking about. Daniel would probably only let news of his idea slip in private conversation (with either Dana or another member of the science team) or on the scientist's message boards, which would probably be in tighter security than most of the network. JellyfishGreen
Paintball post up! HWP post updated! :bomber:Trigger asleep at 5 am! Terrick assigned to Squad 1! Gaston assigned to Squad 2! Vet's blueprints up in the Pine Gap thread! :o Vet, I've plotted in some interaction between TJ and Gia, could you possibly delete the brief reference to Gia in your post? Snikers
Excellent paintball fight! Nice description of "blind mouse", never even thought of that. Although I've been thinking, despite Mouse's background, I'd prefer to keep her from cursing in most occasions...that way when she does, you know it's serious. Spaceman42
Paintball? Has no-one here read the great Clancy classic, "Clear and Present Danger"? If the US Army had LASIR [?] infrared systems for simulating combat situations in training, why is X-COM using paintballs? [Waiting for the shipment of high-tech training doodads to arrive?] Live ammo with wax bullets would work as well.
JellyfishGreen
Mainly because I have a lot more experience with paintball guns than laser tag equipment. Paintguns have an added advantage of letting you feel the impact*, though they do tend to be as inaccurate as, oh, an xcom rookie performing a standing snap shot. *with some force. Hopefully justifying Christel starting to curse and then reining it in. Was that the Clancy novel with the OPFOR training in Buffalo or something?Does anyone know whether wax bullets actually make it the 200 meters to the target, or do they just vaporize and disperse after firing? My remaining New Years Eve posts are nowhere near complete. My creative juices are spent. I'll spend some time with my real-life Gia - that ought to help. :inlove:
The Veteran
Sure JFish, tell me what you want changing and I'll do it for you.Spaceman, I think you're a bit lost in time... It's not new year yet but your guys seem to think it is! I've edited it for you now but try to follow it if you can...
Spaceman42
Yeah. I kinda got confused with the dates. [What's the date right now? Dec 29 or something?] Oh, and they didn't *actually* change anything. Dherzhin is a bit too... wound-up to approve any changes without looking over the plans with a magnifying glass, supervising the work, and examining every inch of it when that's done. Hey, he likes his job, doesn't want to lose it...
The Veteran
today is December 31st. Tonight is the new years eve party. And I didn't read that before I posted Spacey so I kind of stuck the modification in anyway! If I was one of the engineers (which I actually am!) then I would go ahead with the modifications anyway. That what your guys did! And what's this about Trigger being asleep at 5am?
Zager
I say we use live ammo. That way we really encourage people to take cover fast.
Spaceman42
Aye, and they *tried* - but even so, Dherzhin isn't one to catch flak for an accident he could have prevented [faulty modification] or for something neccessary being unavailable due to said modification and/or repairs as a result of previous. Oh, well. The rumour that they worked on the engines would still be around. Expect the "modifications" to take place in a week or so [fic time], after Dherzhin's run a few thousand simulations and verified *everything*. Loonie
Okay I'm putting Martin Terrick in squad 2. Is that okay? NOTE: If this message is ignored like the last one I shall take that as a "yes"
Alitorious
Actually, JFG already said Terrick was in squad one. I assumed that my character, Bruheme, was in squad three. Oh, and JFG, Jennifer and Tatyana don't really exist anymore. I may introduce Jennifer later on, but Tatyana isn't there at all. So the only person of mine there right now is Chuck Bruheme. Just FYI. And I can't seem to post anything in comparison to JFG's paintball post, so I won't try. Maybe I'll try something with Daniel.
Snikers
Uhm, just a question from a cro-magnon level fifteen-year-old, but I read Keller's hair as "long", and it probablyslipped by me some other times for other characters... Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't most of the ex-military ladies and gents have, um, crew cuts? Forthe first few months at least, you only have to go to the inventory screen to know XCOM is rather casual in thatsort of thing.
Zager
They're highly trained special ops soldiers, each one of them capable of killing you in any one of a dozen ways. If they want long hair, who's going to stop them?
The Veteran
spaceman, hankosha and loonie all attention here please...Spaceman... The modifications have been undertaken on the hurricane interceptor in hangar three. That's the one shared by davies 'Grizzly' and Gia 'Raven' You won't get in any trouble unless you want to. The good thing about this being a story i that it's only a story! If you want to get away with something then you just do!Hankosha, How did a paintball open an old wound? Firstly, where did the wound come from? No wound can be opened by a paintball. Especially when you're wearing a military jumpsuit... And I'm sorry to say that the shot in the leg counts as a kill... Rick went out with a shot in the arm. Someone else with one in a leg. You follow the same rules! Loonie, you are superheroing... This is totally forbidden and as a result your character is about to get shot... Basically he's doing too well. He's knocking out all of the best soldiers and he isn't playing any part (currently) in developing his or anybody else's character. No superheroing, ever. Go read the rules... I'll edit your post Hankosha, you can check it out but I assure you it's minimal. I don't like changing other people's work as it loses a lot in translation! Zager
This is probably the best place to mention it. I'm running a X-COM play by post game on rpol.net. It's in the sci-fi section, and it's entitled X-COM: UFO Defense. I could use some more players, so if you're intersted in joining, go check it out. Tammy
Thanks for noticing, TJ. As if Poison would've survived that long on the streets making that much noise when she's supposed to be sneaking around. I don't see her being that oblivious to someone sneaking up on her either. I don't mind her getting put out, but she's not stupid, deaf, or otherwise oblivious.
Loonie
Did I say she was stupid? Did I say she was deaf? NO! She simply got caught in a brief moment in which she was reliving her previous life and it happened to be strong enough that she forgot about the practice for a moment. Long enough for someone to possibly take her out. There are many ways to interprit my text or JFG's so please...read veery carefully. I don't know why, but I get the nasty feeling that whilst some of you take great liberties with the fiction or with characters, there are usually no discrepancies, whereas when I post just about one incident I get a note here almost immediately. Now this could be just the fact that I need some time to remember what each character is like and if that is the case please don't remind me of such things unless they are highly critical. Anyway my point with the post was not anything derogatory or sexsist with Poison. I could've chewed out JFG that Terrick would never have obeyed a 'flag rush' because he thought of it stupid and would instead try to sneak his way around the place or try to secure a lone house. But I didn't chew him out since it was a minor slip and not worth discussing. Please try to hold back with this. I need time to accustom myself and besides check both Poison's background and Terrick's and ask yourself again if this incident would be likely considering their previous lives. EDIT: Now that I had just noticed TJ's post...Superheroing??? Excuse me but is taking out one member of the team superheroing??? What about the allmighty Warlord who took out two men almost singlehandedly the first match? That's two more than I have. Is HE a superhero too? Hankosha already took out a hefty amount of members. What about him? I specifically asked myself wether I shoud've posted my installment and I regret the decision already. Go ahead and kill Terrick, because I had accepted that someone would indeed kill him in the following posts and I had no problem with that. People get hit during paintball matches and if you think that Terrick is just another cannon fodder that needs to adjust fast you are wrong. I WOULD think of him that way if it was say 2 weeks into X-Com's service but it is instead just its beggining and therefore Terrick has just as much chances as everyone else. I know that this post was most likely stemmed from your overprotectiveness of Tammy's characters which I do not appreciate at all. :hmmm: Anyway I might've been wrong about a few things here, but just so as you remember so too could have you been wrong. I shan't be posting in the fic for a while until this match is over so as not to cause any more reason for you to post more in here.
The Veteran
My point exactly! Hey Tammy, it's ben a while since you've posted. You know what I said about your work... Pay attention to us! Well... me anyway :inlove:
Tammy
Oh, Loonie, don't take it so personally, please. You seem to have forgotten that TJ and I nearly came to blows over the Rick/Tammy situation. I'm not going to speak for TJ, of course, but I will say that I wasn't really annoyed with you. You should know what that looks like. If not, just ask TJ. That was settled quickly, and this can be, too. Friends? And TJ, I will post again tonight if I can find time, ok? *wonders if it's too early to start party preparations*
Loonie
I know. I was just a little bit edgy yesterday. Still anyways, I don't know if I'll post during the paintball match though if I see a good oportunity I might. Though you can count on me posting at the new years' party. I didn't really take it personally. It could've been just a nasty coincidence that popped to my mind. Anyway definately friends.
JellyfishGreen
Group hug from me to whoever wants one. The fic's hanging together pretty well so far. (I admit to heavily influencing it's direction.) I actually like Loonie's Terrick as a character, there's some intrigue going on there that could play out well. If it makes you feel better, Loonie, in my paintball post, the smoke grenade and subsequent rush tactic is carried out by the trio in Squad 2. In Squad 1, Warlord is the first to twig to the tactic, and manages to warn Tim. Terrick was just 'elsewhere' in the village and I let him be caught by the tactic. You know who's worrying me? Hankosha. Like Spawn, he has no personal interactions, gnawing fear inside, and is apparently unstoppable. Except for Vet's edit, if I read correctly. On the bright side, he is posting. Hankosha, talk to us, man! XCOM are the good guys! If anyone's looking for paintball information & basic rules, the Warpig Newbie Guide is your only man. FYI: Spider Valley is my invention. It got it's nickname from the spiders that live in the abandoned buildings. Being Australia, many of these spiders are probably poisonous. I wrote my events in a small mock village as found on many paintball fields, most of these 'buildings' are just big plywood boxes with cutouts for doors and windows. I guess we'll let the multistory building and manufacturing complex exist nearby. I'm past the paintball post myself, the next post probably will be at the New Year's party. Surprisingly I find myself trying to design a dress. Edit: Party poster changed, it's in the Rec Room. Canteen sells food but Rec Room has a bar behind a metal shutter that opens in the evenings.
