The Veteran
That's Zager alright! Does the bioelectric cell not recharge itself? Rather than storing so much energy I mean... That would explain the long life expectancy as everytime the weapon was fired 75% of the energy it used would be instantly replaced and the rest would slowly be replaced as well. Of course things like that overheat though... They may not have done in the game but they will in the fic. Rest assured they will in the fic... Alitorious
Thanks for the science descriptions, now I know specifically what's going on.I had looked up ablation earlier, and it coincides with laser damage nicely.Main Entry: ab
Zager
Well, I could wipe up a microwave power plant, so that it a nuclear reactor back at base transmits electricity to the cell in the form of microwaves so that it recharges itself. Of course, you can't use this for the actual firing process, because of a slight time delay. So when the battery level gets low, the computer at the microwave center will detect this, and transmit electricity to charge it up again. So, could you spot me 2.3 billion to design and build it? Alitorious
Or maybe Vet was thinking the biocells have a way to 'eat.?' As in, you plop little things into the biocell and it'll convert them to energy? I don't see how anything can 'recharge' otherwise. It would violate the conservation of energy laws. Zager's idea works too, but the microwave transmitter would be highly inefficient as only a fraction of the energy emitted would be recieved by the cells, and the rest goes outward and gets wasted. So in addition to his 2.3 billion startup cost, it would cost a LOT in energy costs.
Zager
Wrong, we use focused microwaves instead of a general beam, like has been proposed in theoretical orbital power stations. Gather up the power through solar cells and beam it down to earth. The same principle, except we're beaming the power to the cells.
The Veteran
Right Loonie is AWOL and hasn't even touched his character profile so it's been removed until he comes back to rewrite it. For now though his character isn't at Pine Gap.(I warn you Loonie that by January 1st game time we won't be adding anymore characters for a good few weeks)So if anyone wants to post in the fic, feel free! It'll get us moving again!
Loonie
I can't really say it any other more original way. SORRY! My appendix got infected but its sorted out now. I've been in the hospital for the past three days so I haven't been able to respond at all. Anyway because of certain reasons (one of them being that my character has stopped the fic for a whole freaking week and that he will be hard to roleplay for anyone except me), I have decided to agree. MadCap is NOT, repeat, NOT at Pine Gap - like Veteran said and is not even part of the story. I will introduce a more ordinary character right about now, IF of course you feel that it won't disturb anything you would like to do. Quite frankly I want to get down to writing and not moaning and b*tch*g. :hmmm: Once again sorry for the delay.
The Veteran
Damn Loonie, I had no idea. Hope you're ok now. Anyway, if you want MadCap and feel you can follow the PM I sent you then I honestly see no problem with the character but like I say we soon won't be recruiting anyone at all, so be quick! Loonie
As I said I had time to consider him whilst in the hospital (not much else to do there but to read and think about things ) and I've decided to forget him. It'd be best for everyone if we just moved along and I make a more centered character. I'm sure that will work best for all of us (even me ). Snikers
Ah, I see, the french soldier Gaston has a Calico pistol, which is then described as "it could only be a pistol in USA." Good, good... Then the Skyranger pilot, Jerry Melo, crashes the plane, and the group has to run to the nearby town of Varrez, to repair the team leader's laptop computer... (If you don't get the reference, you aren't playing the right games!)
Tammy
Hey, TJ, does Gia have a twin? She was in the rec room playing a flight sim and then you left to get her from the hangar...? :dontgetit:
Zager
Heh. The Jagged Alliance series is defintely one of the best series ever made, it ranks alongside of X-COM. Of course, I'm sure our pilots won't vanish, only to have their glasses discovered later on in a bloodcat den, next to a pile of bloody bones and a small quantity of recreational drugs, right? Tammy
No, our pilots just teleport from the rec room to the hangar.
Alitorious
Okay then, Zager. Focused microwaves it is. (Fried sectoid brains, yum ) (I know that that's impossible, the microwave emitter can't send out anything except communication microwaves. Just having fun.) I think I'll post some soldiers today. Last-minute add-ons, I know. But I've decided that only having two people on the research/engineering staff severely limits the amount I can contribute to the fic.(Note to real-time forum browsers, It might be an hour before I post.) Zager
We've got laser guns, that's just as impossible. Also, microwave power transmission is possible, from everything I've read.
Alitorious
I meant using the microwaves to fry only the sectoids (and other aliens) was impossible. Maybe theoretically possible, but the game never had "insta-kill orbital microwaves of death". I vote we leave this alone, and say that Zager's biocells are just that good that they store enough energy to last any battle.
Snikers
And when our pilots can't be found at the rec room, hangar, or Reaper den, we can find them hiding in the swampand escort them back to the landing strip. And regret it forever after as every time we talk to them, they shout the same line that bores into your brain. Thiswill become especially annoying when we have to transfer our soldiers from the main base to the storage basefor resupply. :hmmm:
Zager
What's the frying got to do with anything? The microwaves are meant solely to recharge the biocells when the energy level is depleted. It requires a special receiver, so we can't do any frying of aliens.
Zager
Oh, and if the pilot gets shot down, the universe comes to an end.
Loonie
Is it just me or are there a number of soldiers right after Martin Terrick, which have no distinguishable weaknesses?
Zager
Who do you think is going to be sent to X-COM, standard grunt troops from the regular army, or the veteran soldiers from elite units?
Loonie
True, though I wouldn't like the characters to be superhumans or without a dent. Everyone (even the best proffesionals) has something at which he is not tottaly confident or good at. Why have the words "Poor" or "Below average" to describe statistics then? The Veteran
Who do you mean Loonie? And Zager, just because these guys are the best of the best doesn't make any of them perfect. Speaking for my characters I can tell you now that neither one of them is without their problems. Not physical but they have them...
