Chrysalid_zombie
I'm trying to connect to the irc server, but my network connection at Uni is having none of it when I use mIRC. Is there a java version or something http based I can use that might let me get by this travesty of justice? SOS!
Chrysalid_zombie
It seems I cannot connect to IRC servers from this great network I'm on. That or Starchat is down... Or my network connection is having a fit. I'll have to ask some of the computer Gods here to see what's going on. Sorry about missing yet another week
Ego Terrorist
Ah, its alright Jacko, as longer as we know we won't be without your Jackson-ism for too long! Hmm, I'll take a look for a starchat java thingy, but another possibility is downloading Trillian and using Trillian's IRC bit to connect. Failing that you might want to pop onto https://www.starchat.net/ and see if they know of any java servers...I'd check it out myself, but right now I'm on the school network, and certain words are banned by the proxy, one of these words is 'chat' so if a website address contains that then I'm kinda buggered. Also take a look at: https://www.starchat.net/java.php?chan=NJPROGHOUSE and https://www.starchat.net/java.php?chan=eda Again I can't tell if they're of any use! Soz! Chrysalid_zombie
Thanks for the help Pickers, but even when I use browser based ones I can't connect. It seems that the IRC ports may be blocked over this network... I'm going to ask a fellow in the know if this is the case and if there is a way around it other than using my dail-up connection at national call rates
Chrysalid_zombie
Aha! It seems that some but not all of the irc ports are blocked I've managed to connect to starchat with port 6669 instead of the default ports, so I should be okay next sim Huzzah! I can get as far as the Connect button and then it does nothing. I talked to the starchat help and they had me uninstall and install again, no difference. I'm a senior and I own the room, friendly-senior-outlet. Can anyone help me to get in??? thanks so much
