Strong Bob
I've just recently joined this Sim and replied to the confirmation E-mail and everything. I don't have much time on my hands, and I can't seem to locate any truly specific rules. I was wondering if someone could possibly give me a brief rundown on how to go about playing in this sim and maybe how the plot has changed since the Background Story was written. Would I have to roleplay in this very board to legitimatly sim? This is all probably dead obvious stuff to the rest of you, but I'd appreciate any input if possible. Ego Terrorist
Nice one, okay here is a link that will teach you the art of simming: XCAS Art of Simming and Rules Basically read that, and show up to the mission, if you're not sure still how to sim then then my advise is just watch the others sim. You'll then understand how we sim (Also the general insanty that seems to follow us...and I ain't talking about Loonie )And then once you've gotten an idea of how to sim then just join in. If you don't like that idea then you and I (And anyone else) can organise a time before the Sunday sim and we can teach you how to sim in a little training mini-sim. You'll have a better idea of how to sim and with time you'll become a veteran! You'll also find the main rules at the bottom of that page, however basically: We don't forbid swearing as such, we just don't encourage it either but if you must swear then don't over do it. Other rules are just rules of common sense and politeness, no flaming, in a mission you only play your own character, keep the OOC (Out Of Character) Chatter to a minimal during a mission as well. Ops (The people with the power to kick and ban you from a channel) should be listened to, if they tell you your doing something wrong - you are doing something wrong. Mind you that doesn't mean to say that they are perfect and right all of the time. How has the plot changed since the background story... We meet new race - The Ascidian's, they are under attack from aliens, they are psionically weak, aliens are psionically powerful, so we become 'friends', aliens kill, maim, destroy, we come and kick ass while chewing gum. We then get a Base because the Aliens half-inch (steal) our starship, we get our starship back, we meet the Kabron pirates, they under threat, but have handy Avenger, we become allies...I think...and well...Jackson gets shot...again...and again...and again. Needless to say the plot is a hard thing to describe right now, my advise is read the stories, read the fanfiction, or wait until some one can be arsed to post a kind of 'Background update' thingy. Would you have to roleplay on the board and in the sunday missions to legitamally sim? Hell no. It's optional, we encourage you to post in the forum roleplays, but as long as you show up to the mission (or post your absenses) then you're doing alright. Oh and we Sergeants are Gods, treat us so Any questions? Or querys? And if you would like to do a training mission before the Sunday main mission then tell me ASAP so I can sort out a time and place that would be good for both you and me. - Doctor Ned Yorke, who also, by some strange twist of fate, is a Sergeant.
Loonie
Oh and we Sergeants are Gods, treat us so Sure suuuuure. ::gets ready to pull a strip away from Ego's shoulder  But he is right nonetheless. In times of battle you might actually want to listen to them more than you do to us officers. Seeing as how Yorke (Ego Terrorist) beat me to it I can do little but concur. Check the XCAS site for any details you need. There are a few things however that aren't mentioned and that have developed since the beginning and so I guess I might as well be "arsed" to give you a lowdown on what has happened (all other new recruits are also encouraged to read this post. ) We have arrived into this section of our galaxy some 60 light years away from Earth by unknown means. Now we obviously need to find a way back, though it won't be easy. The all too familiar Aliens are out there and will certainly either capture us and our ship for study or will alternatively just wipe us out. The Aliens are currently fighting another alien race called the Ascadians who are, like Ego Terrorist said, weak in psionics (though not in the sense that they are less intelligent ) but generally strong in muscle. They have quite a hefty amount of technology themselves and are currently fighting a war with our already familiar Aliens from UFO: Enemy Unknown and X-Com: Interceptor. First Contact went well with the Ascadians, but ultimately we decided to "brake off" from them for a bit and explore this sector of the galaxy ourselves. The Patton went exploring but it wasn't too long until it was captured by Alien forces. However X-Com escaped their prisons and fled with the Patton, continuing to explore. Quite a lot of high-tech stuff was added to the Patton by the Aliens as it was captured and now X-Com had it all. X-Com continued to explore until it stumbled upon a planet made up almost 50% of Elerium-115. But shortly after that the numerous Alien forces guarding that place destroyed the Patton and that would've been the end of X-Com. Had the Ascadians not rescued us in the nick of time. They were kind enough to grant us shelter on one of their important planets, Arkunis II, in return that we would help defend it. Even with our limited resources X-Com managed to defend the crucial facility during a huge offensive on it, although only barely. This impressed the Ascadians enough that they provided us with a mining vessel which we could use to mine the local planets for resources, which were in very short supply since the destruction of the Patton. After a brief mining mission X-Com was relatively well equipped and was helping out the Ascidians on a regular basis. Finnaly when X-Com helped out significantly in a major Ascadian push against the Aliens to drive them out of the Arkunis system, the Ascadians also managed to recover the remains of the Patton and give its remains to X-Com so that it could put the ship back together at a later date. They even decided to give us our very own planet - Arkunis IV where Nova Alpha Omega (our base) was chosen as the permament stay for X-Com. And with that the Alliance between Terrans and Ascadians was official and except for certain rogue factions like the API and Black Spear, the Ascadian military forces have given us their almost complete trust and also revealed quite a lot of information to us, though still not all of it. Life went well in NAO as X-Com worked hard into focusing their efforts to build up their base properly. They had just managed to reconstruct the Patton after so long when an Alien faction sympathetic to Humans and Ascidians (called Osiris) gave out a brief warning to X-Com of an arriving Alien fleet. The warning however came in late and a severe blow was dealt to X-Com and the Ascadians as the Aliens managed to invade NAO, though it was barely defended and they also managed to take out quite a portion of the Ascadian space fleet, not to mention leveling the capital city of Ascidia -the Ascadian homeworld. After that followed a slow recovery from the event. The X-Com forces would be hidden, once again thanks to the Ascadians who provided them a Coaxial Warp Drive, which would transport them for almost a light year away from NAO. They would wait in hiding, preforming various other missions along the way, until the Aliens had stopped their rampage in the Arkunis system and would leave. During this time they had the main task of protecting the Coaxial Warp System from harm. Finnaly after quite a while away X-Com finnaly returned to NAO, though it had to be cleared out of Ethereals first (the mission where I came into XCAS ). During the recovery and rebuilding effort the Kabron Pirates (human pirates from Sol) were encountered during an escort mission and First Contact went sour with them, since they are enemies of X-Com from before. They are currently incarcarated in X-Com's prisons and their commander still treats X-Com with hostility. However there have been several individual pirates who have expressed their wishes to join X-Com's ranks. The Avenger craft, in which they arrived here, was also studied and the cause of their arrival to this place, as well as X-Com's, has been determined (check the entry dated as March the 15th, 2067 17:13 hrs GGT in the "Current Research" thread in the UFOpaedia of XCAS for that explanation. ). After this Human incident of course Ascadian-Terran relations went rather sour. What followed was a period of separate missions to further X-Com's and Ascidian development and to ensure their defence. X-Com was mainly dealing with the API and Black Spear, all the way until another heavy Alien offensive, during which the Aliens managed to set up a stronghold on Arkunis VI. X-Com and Ascadian forces tried to quickly dispatch them, but failed in the attempt. X-Com retreated, being badly shaken with many injuries. The Commander and Colonel then left to assist the Ascadians in an important mission, leaving behind Lieutenants Kacur and Ghost to lead the X-Com team. After that there were several victories for X-Com and the Alien threat had been contained, though it still remained very dangerous, and Ascadian-Terran relations were also slowly rising. Then, about halfway through the campaign, came an important marking stone, since X-Com had finnaly recovered an Osiris defector, which was able to give X-Com valuable information about the Alien activities on Arkunis. With its data X-Com, together with the Ascadian forces, managed to stage a multiple-stage mission to clear the Arkunis system of Aliens, namely by destroying their stronghold on Arkunis VI. A three stage mission ensued where X-Com first opened up a small corridor to sneak friendly forces inside of the Alien's defence grid. The second part saw the destruction of the Alien task force, headed by a single mothership which X-Com sabotaged. And the final saw the destruction of the Arkunis VI base which was bombed flat by Ascadian bombers after its defensive emplacements were knocked out by a joint Ascadian/X-Com effort. During that mission there were also many high-ranking Aliens successfully recovered by an infiltration X-Com team, but not without cost. In the entire campaign as many as four X-Com soldiers had died with numerous others suffering heavy injuries. The team then headed home to NAO but soon after arriving they were attacked by an unknown alien species, an assault which would prompt X-Com to restructure its layout over the next two weeks. After that time there was little activity until a distress call was recieved from the Commander and Colonel who were just returning on the Patton back to NAO. A team was sent to retrieve them but was consequently ambushed and captured completely along with the Commander and the Colonel. After several days of enduring psionic and conventional torturing techniques however the team managed to escape the API base during an assault on that organization mounted by Black Spear. During this time they also recovered much of the API's technological data as well as their latest stealth technologies. However the price that X-Com had paid for it was the fact that the Colonel was still captured by the API and would quite likely be able to reveal much important information about X-Com upon his interrogation. Afterwards the API quickly picked up the pace of its attacks and devoted much of its resources to mount an assault aimed towards the home planet of Ascadia. X-Com met them together with local friendly Ascadian forces and after several days of fighting they managed to repel the invasion. However it would seem that the API misjudged its position with this bold move and as a result of devoting so many of its resources to this operation it fell prey to a swift attack on the side of Black Spear which managed to make it crumble almost completely. The last of the API resistors would later be cleaned up by X-Com on one of their bases and also on a communications base which allowed the API to attack Ascadia. With the API's destruction and the Black Spear forces also quite exhausted the Ascadians decided to focus their efforts much more on the Alien forces that were just then making an assault on a very crucial star system called Yulinis. X-Com forces were also recruited to assist in any way possible and were sent away from NAO on an extended leave. The majority of the X-Com forces boarded the Patton and would be deployed to the most crucial frontline missions whilst Kappa Team would be in the direct employ of the Ascadian forces and would preform more covert missions primarily aimed at disrupting the Alien's operations to the fullest whilst the remaining forces would move in to dispatch them. Some time into the campaign however, and after two quick surprise Alien ambush attacks, the team's morale sank, most notably of Alpha Squad as well since its Lieutenant had taken yet another vacation, severely straining one of his Sergeants to take control as the other Sergeant had been comatosed during battle. This was also amplified by the fact that a traitor was known to be amidst the crew after a sabotage incident. The Patton's contingent itself however did run into more Osiris Sectoids later which agreed to help X-Com by securing vital Alien movement orders that were taking place in Yulinis, where during a part of that operation a Supply Ship was also captured intact succesfully. So.......that's that. Anyways we'd be glad to have you on board. Sims usually take place at 19:00 GMT on Saturdays and Sundays in the IRC server Starchat called XCAS. For more info check the pages on XCAS from "What's a sim" to "Joining". If you'd like I can arrange a nice sim for you this Saturday at 19:00 GMT. I'm sure the rest won't mind that much. You are also very encouraged to post in the roleplay and the social roleplay sections in this forum and also to check out the weekly mission de-briefs made by me on our Sunday sims to get you into what kind of stuff do we sim. But otherwise that's it. Cheers! Loonie.
Chrysalid_zombie
Greetings new simmer I'm Chrysalid_zombie (or just CZ) and I play Jackson in the sim. Just to inform you before you start, I'm crazy and I get shot on average once or twice per sim as I attract bad luck. If you're in a heavy fire fight just stick near me and you'll be unscathed as every bullet nearby hits me instead Glad to have you aboard, or inside, or whatever term is used in this case
BioHazard
Hello there, new one, I'm Roel "Biohazard" Ilyuschenko in this sim, and don't take Jacko's advice too literally, stand 4-5 feet away from him, then your fine, otherwise, well, I always wondered if it's possible to have 2 bad luck vacuums in one ship. Anyway, good to see that you are helping us out, killing those aliens is harder than one might think
Strong Bob
Thanks guys. I'd like to take up a training sim to get me in the groove of things if you don't mind. (I've got school so I'm often only available at 3 PM Eastern America time, which would be 20.00 GMT I think. I can make the regular time on the weekend though.) My character is Joseph Scott, (Codename: Albino) can I get his profile in the roster?
Loonie
Yeah sure. When you're done (if not already) pop it over to me via a PM over these forums, since my E-Mail doesn't work right now and I'll have your bio up in no time. Also you could try and get a picture for your character too. It'd be quite nice, but it is of course optional.
Strong Bob
Can my picture be a sprite?
Loonie
hmmmm......I haven't really considered that, heh. So far we've all posted pictures of our characters that are more or less photos of some other people that we found on the net. It could be a sprite though, yeah. As long as it represents the character clearly enough (his face, build, ect. )
