Briefing for sunday's sim

As the shuttle left the docking platform, Lieutenant Schmerjchanikov released his buckles and got up, moving to the front of the shuttle bay so everyone could hear and see him.

"Okay people, here's the deal. As most of you know by now, Corporal Stone's craft got taken down during her last mission with Colonel Cyriacus. She managed to eject from the craft fortunately, and got shot out into the woods. The Xan'per'latos managed to track her distress beacon, and pinpointed her location. We were getting ready for an extraction. Unfortunately before we could do this a wing of Black Spear Valkyries, coming from an unknown location, blasted their way through a patrol of the fleet here. After this action, which got them exposed, they were being tracked by the fleet, sometimes losing contact, because of their excellent cloaking system, but when they entered atmosphere, we got a lock on them again. We managed to track them while they flew to near Fox's distress beacon, where they disappeared for a time, most likely touched down, and reappeared, leaving the planet. They remained uncloaked for a distance off the planet, which they most likely believed to be outside of our sensor range. Then they disappeared again, back into cloak. We thought we had lost them, but then we got a distress call from Trafalgar Cruiser Mes'vanos'trin. It had engaged and destroyed one of the three Valkyries that had suddenly lost cloaking due to a stray asteroid. It then tracked the two remaining Valkyries while they returned to home base."

He looked at the team a moment, all of which seemed to be listening closely, and then continued with the critical part.

"To their surprise that home base was the nearby Centurion Destroyer, which was believed to be part of the fleet, but apparently is nothing but an infiltrated ship of the Black Spear, despite it's fleet markings. The moment the fighters had docked the Destroyer had powered it's weapons and engaged the Cruiser, knowing it's cover had been blown. Unfortunately in this skirmish the Trafalgar Cruiser and most of it's crew have been lost, but they did manage to get this vital information out to us. In response to the destruction of their Cruiser however the fleet has launched an offensive against the Black Spear Destroyer. We will be boarding the ship during this offensive, the attack should draw their fire enough to allow us to slip through relatively unnoticed, hopefully not getting fired upon. However as we are going in in the middle of an attack there will be significant risk, as well as a time limit. They are not going to wait for us to shoot that Destroyer to bits, they do not want any more losses then already will occur with this attack, so we need to get in, get Fox and get out. We'll be arriving in a few minutes. Is this clear to everyone?"

With these words Ghost looks around again at the people assembled to see if there are any questions.

We'll all be using our standard equipment for vacuum environments and one of us will carry an extra Vacc suit for Fox. Just in case we get into an area where the air is gone thanks to damage done by the Ascadian attack.

Other then that everyone gets the equipment they normally have on a mission. Oh and one more thing. No grenades. We do not want to cause any more hull damage to the ship, endangering ourselves, nor any other explosive weaponry.

Kacur was listening carefully to the briefing at the back. It would make sense not to use grenades. Vacc suits would be a neccessary precaution, though our protection would be quite seriously diminished from weapons fire. He wondered for a moment as to who would have to carry the extra vacc suit, thereby greatly inhibiting him or her.

Kacur did however remember to ask one more important question. One that he never forgot after the mission on Kanay V whenever dealing with Black Spear. He slowly raised his right hand, with his index finger extended in the air and asked:

"Are there any chances of encountering alien resistance along with Ascidian?"

Ghost looks at Kacur a moment, somewhat surprised by the question, and frowns a moment in thought, then slowly nods.

"The possibility is present yes. Although we have no indications of aliens being present there, it is possible, as they did nothing against the Valkyries when they entered the planet's atmosphere. An alliance, or at the least a partnership between the aliens and the people on this ship is most likely. As such I would not be too surprised if we find any, though it'd have been quite a stunt to smuggle those on board without getting noticed by any other fleet ships. As you may or may not know, the Ascadian fleet works as a whole, so if one ships sends craft to the planet that is done because the fleet admiral orders that. No craft operates alone, not even this one if they don't want to get caught. Although with those Valkyries it may have been possible."

Howardson listened through the briefing. So Stone had been captured. And the rescue would be a tough one. He raised his hand, and ghost gestured towards it, implying Sam may ask.

"Will there be any rescue craft out there? I dont mean our transport, but something that could pick up a soldier flying out in space? Having one would be helpful in the event of a hull breach in our area. Also, how big is this cruiser in question? And do we have any idea one where stone may be?"

Ghost nodded at Howardson's questions.

"Good questions indeed. Well we have no idea where Fox will be held, but we do know the statistics on these craft, so we can assume she will be held in the brig area of the ship. The ship is a destroyer, a rather large ship of the Ascadian fleet. It is 450 metres long and can house about 300 men in Ascadian personnel. Now we're guessing they are not running at a full crew, but they will certainly have a good security complement with an infiltration mission like that. Now as for the rescue ships. I'm afraid there will be none, until the flak of the destroyer can be reliably considered destroyed. A rescue ship would be too large a target, far larger then a pilot or soldier floating in space. Of course you will be protected from the cold vaccuum of space by your vacc suit, so you should be okay when the rescue ships come and get you. You will all have a rescue beacon built in your suit which you can activate, should you get shot into space, so they can locate you more easily. There is of course a risk by all of this, so I would hope that everyone is as careful as can be while we are in there, so you don't get this happening to you. I hope that answers your question?"

ALLRIGHTEY!!! Briefing for Sunday is up. I had some complaints about how sorry updating is and now you got your wish. Now I want you to read it in advance, think about how to play the sim in advance and attend.

I'm not giving all the picture candy at the UFOpaedia and the new techs as well as the timely updates away for nothing ya know.

Hmmm. Can it be we're having a non-combat mission for once? That would be a nice change of pace. Sims were starting to grow stale. This will spruce things up a bit, time to actually do new ideas and tactics!

Oh, and where did you get the picture for the briefing? The Indicator overwrites the web page its from, you tricky loon

lol. It's meant to otherwise it wouldn't be a real recon photo. This way I can just say that that thing in the back is simply static.

Yes actually I got it from www.turbosquid.com. It's a great site with lots of nice 3D pictures. :)

You might also want to check the UFOpaedia. For some strange reason the Ascadians have now granted us access to a LOT of the technology pictures of their weapons and have even allowed us to view pictures of our own weapons. :)

Now then Loonie, taking credit for my briefing are we? *laughs* Just kidding  Thanks for putting it up and your feedback on it :) And yes, your perception is right IonMage, the mission is to be a non-combat mission.

LOL!

That's the closest I can get to Yorke's description of them. Face of a gorrila with a yellowish skin tone. Might as well get used to it. :)

Besides they usually have the yellow skin tone covered with some clothing so it's not all THAT bad. (though admittivedly they are usually around 7 feet tall :) )

Okay ladies! It's all been fun and games till now however things are changing. I know that this is still Mouses sim and I will abide to the general guidlines that he sets, but as far as some other things are considered...there are gonna be some changes.

This week we start our Alpha and Kappa squad program. If you are not in one of those squads that does not even remotely mean that you will NOT be needed. You will be assigned to one of these two squads whenever a sim begins so you'll have just as much work as those that are officially part of the squad. :)

Apart from that I have noted the recent slowness of XCAS because Mouse is currently absent. Here's the deal. Just because the CO and XO happen to be absent that does not mark the sim dead. DH, Ghost and myself will make sure that THAT does not happen until Mouse returns. So missing out on a sim right now is EXACTLY like missing out on a sim whilst Mouse is active, not just because we're as good as him but because we certainly are putting in a lot of effort to make this thing go on. Respect that. :hmmm:

Other than that I'm finished with my talking here. Now pay attention to what goes on the site just like you did during the time when Mouse was around. This thing is going on with a fresh new chapter to set us on our road, so there will be no excuse for not making it to a sim except RL absence (which must be posted in advance on the "Absence" topic in this forum!) and if you feel that you have had it with this sim (which I believe none of you is ready to quite say that).

So. Make it this Sunday on the 6th of April. And as the board says "Be there or be square."

Just as a note, I gave my word and it's still good - I'm no longer involved in the general running of the sim in any official capacity. Alpha team queries should go to Loonie, while Kappa Team requests should go to Ghost. I'm still moderating this forum, which is about it. I do have access to the webpage, but in order to maintain consistency, I'll be only modifying things that are affecting Kappa team, as opposed to the general site which is Loonie's responsibility.

Have been working on the site for 5 hours now updating and rearranging so.....

HEAD TO THE XCAS SITE AND GET BRIEFED ON WHAT'S NEW AND WHAT'S OLD!!!!!!

And attend in the sims. I hope you donate at least a third of the time I have donated to the sim this night when I was updating. So be there or I'll start kicking people off the roster!

Heh okay maybe not that much. But there will be *something* happening if I notice that someone happens to be constantly absent. :)

Take care all and hail XCASes rebirth! :)
