Ghost
Hey everyone, guess who's still alive? If all goes well I should be returning to active duty again very soon, hopefully this weekend already Before I return though (and I haven't see what things are like at current so I wouldn't know) I would like to make a request. Can we make it somewhat turnbased, rather then just the one that types fastest gets the first action? This would promote making longer poses, rather then the old system as long poses were a bit discouraged as you have to type really fast. Also it would prevent 2 people posing 2 contradicting things after eachother. It won't have to be entirely turn based, but at least a sort of turnbased style system, giving people that don't type as fast but still would like to make some longer poses a chance. I realise I've been out for a while and might not know how things are at current, and am making requests already before actually returning, but it's just something I'd like to suggest. Most RPG-style games I know (including sims) work with a similar system In the mean time however, look out for everyone's favorite sniper as he makes his comeback soon
DragonHawk
How is this going to work? Everyone has to do it in a certain order? This could be soemthing to try out on Saturday.
Ghost
Well something like that, it usually works with a fixed order, but sometimes an immediately reply is needed, or for conversation for instance, in such cases the order can be broken so that the others don't have to make useless poses to pass their turns. DragonHawk
Interesting... make sure your ass is present on Saturday, we gotta try this idea out. *EDIT* The previous version of this post could have been taken the wrong way...
Ion Mage
Im not sure about the idea, i kinda like the system as is, but we should try it out before we jumpt to conclusions . We can then vote on it afterwards. Oh, and nice to see you back ghost. Not sure if you were there when i first came along Damn, so many people returning to active duty! First brain, now ghost! Soon, rodriguez, stochkhart, stone, and ralwell will too if we keep this up, and we will have a full roster!!! Well, maybe that last part was a little far-fetched but... :alien2:
DragonHawk
lol, don't count on any of those others returning to active. I split the list, Admin being those normally assigned to garrison the base, and the Combat Team being those primarily going out for missions. So they aren't "active" per se, because I've changed the roster to reflect the "in-game" duties.
Brainiacus
Ghost, in reply to your request, that 'turn-based' idea is actually something a GM should compensate for in a regular sim, and in XCAS. If the GM notices people being less active or having 'less fun' than the others, he should make sure the others are more inactive and force the inactive person to make a few moves. I personally use private messages to send people things they see, hear or scan, in case I see them being inactive and want them to type something. Obviously, that might look like someone is GM'ing for me at times... but if I don't say anything about it you can assume I PM'ed that specific person. I do agree with the longer posts. I myself can sometimes make very short posts because I have to read everything everyone types a bit better than average, need to GM and play my char at the same time... but that doesn't mean the rest can do the same. Oh, and great to see you're returning to XCAS... I myself am currently floating around a bit and considering permanently returning as well. Ghost
Ion Mage, no I wasn't around when you were first here, but I am one of the 'original' XCAS crew I've been around since sim 1, but have been on 'admin duty' as DH put it I understand that a GM is to compensate for things like that Brain, but still you keep the point of having conflicting poses if one person tries to type a longer thing, and somebody else quickly puts a shorter one in between, making what you are trying to do impossible. Loonie
Well you are right about the contradicting, but there's something else here. If everyone types faster and shorter responses, then you are also much more easily drawn into the sim (it's a known psychological trick, so you can be sure that it is that way). I mean I for one would like to remove contradicting, but if we make longer posts, then the whole thing might become rather........well.......stale . But anyway as DH already proposed we'll just try it out on the Saturday sim and see how it goes. And nice to have met the infamous Sniper.
Brainiacus
Tolerance, adaptation and interpretation. There's no need for the turn based system as long as the GM does his job and all simmers know what the above three things mean.
Ghost
Well aye, let's give it a shot saturday and otherwise we'll go for the old system. And I understand your PoV Loonie, I just meant that it's a bit promoted to do ::shoots the Sectoid:: posts in that kind of way, I'm used to making it a bit longer, and though I type fast, I can't outtype that
