ok.. this is a problem.. well.. i can destroy 2 of 3 chambers W/o problems.. but with the last one ( the big wih a spawning pad in the middle of it ) im having mayor problems.. it keeps raining out rockets of all kind.. and mostly its Entropy.. sure.. got shields.. they last 2 secs in there... try to wait them out.. yeah.. they get you from behind or above.. this mission is getting on my nerves. im using a decent group ... 11 i think it was.. but got a litle slaughter team in a Annihilator waiting to die.. 24 i think

but i tried to use my 2 best units.. a Spionic guy and a weaponsmaster... but its more or less impossible

so anyone got some good tips? ( got every alien tech except teleport )

and when we're at it.. Merry X-Mas to you all =)

You could also try running past and tossing some area effect weapons inside a few times. Like vortex mines or dimension missiles and then heading to safety. Or, let the aliens come out and rake them to bits at the entrance. Then when most of them have left, go in and mop up the rest.

This is one place where the anti-alien gas missiles and grenades are a real lifesaver. Short of that, you still have stun grenades.

Hmm, well, if all you want to do is win the last level, here's a suggestion:

Bring in as many soldiers as you can. Bring in dimension missiles and lots of devestators - not toxiguns. Unlike anti-alien gas rockets (not grenades), toxiguns won't do anything to the laser grid generators, but they are still handy against any aliens you encounter. Kill only the aliens that are in your way. Don't waste your time hunting for the alien - the spawn pads on this map are indestructable.

The trick to winning the last mission is to disable the building as quickly as possible by destroying the laser grid generators and then evacuating from the mission. Note that only one generator in a pair needs to be destroyed - just as long as the laser beam is disabled. .

So the moment the mission starts, with a lot of soldiers you should be pretty well spread, immediately start blowing away the generator. Once the building is disabled, evacuate from the mission and you've pretty much won the game.

You don't need a lot of soldiers to win this mission, but it's easy to knock out most of the generators when you have soldiers start practically all around the pit. You can later try this mission again with a smaller team, or heck, even one soldier. Anything's possible!

BTW, do you care about playing honorably?

If not, you can just equip soldier with 2 teleporters in real time mode. Teleport in, arm vortex mine, drop vortex mine, teleport out.

For final mission, though, many soldiers with a vortex mine + ONE teleporter each and no armor on suicide mission can end the entire mission before the timer clock hits 10 seconds...

Yup, it's only necromancy Zombie raising a topic from the dead again. :)

Anyhow, can someone here please take a screen cap of the Megapod Chamber (the area with all the pods) for me? I'd prefer it didn't have soldiers visible and must have all the pods intact. And although I can finally run and play Apocalypse via DosBox, I haven't got that far into the game yet.

See, those pods look awefully close (if not identical) to the "One Way To Win" concept UFOPaedia article, and I think those pods are related somehow. :)

You can check out the briefing screen for the Megapod chamber. It should be:

tacdata\alienm1.pcx

If you did a full install, it'll be in your game directory, otherwise check the cd.

Ah, thanks guys. :)

See, I happened to be paging through the OSG for Apocalypse and stumbled upon the Megapod Chamber article near the end. It has a small, grainy, black & white pic of the chamber and the pods looked the same as the one in the "One Way To Win" UFOpaedia article. Didn't know if the color in-game matched the color in the article though. :)

Well, I added a pic of the Pods to the site so that everyone knows what we are talking about. See this link contained in StrategyCore's Apocconcepts page.

Now technically the UFOpaedia articles title is "12TO-WIN.pck" not "One Way to Win". That's what makes me think that this unused feature of Apoc isn't a way to win the game, but the mission instead. Any theories on what this was supposed to do? I would be interested to hear any comments on this subject. :)
