At least one Star Trek "Fan Film" has propelled itself past mere fandom by employing the help of movie and television professionals who are also rabid Star Trek Fans and together they are creating a studio quality independent Star Trek production called "Star Trek Axanar".

Employing top acting talent like, Richard Hatch, Tony Todd, JG Hertzler, and Kate Vernon, along with professional movie makers and support staff, Axanar is out to prove that you don't need millions of dollars and a studio to produce a great movie.

 

The Story of Star Trek: Axanar

 

“Axanar” takes place 21 years before the events of “Where no Man Has Gone Before”, the first Kirk episode of the original Star Trek. Axanar is the story of Garth of Izar, the legendary Starfleet captain who is Captain Kirk’s hero. Kirk himself called Garth the model for all future Starfleet Officer’s. Garth charted more planets than any other Captain and was the hero of the Battle of Axanar, the story of which is required reading at the academy. This is that story.

 

“Axanar” tells the story of Garth and his crew during the Four Years War, the war with the Klingon Empire that almost tore the Federation apart. Garth’s victory at Axanar solidified the Federation and allowed it to become the entity we know in Kirk’s time.

 

To prove their concept, the Axanar team has produced a twenty minute, History Channel style short where the major players in the Battle of Axanar look back at what happed leading up to the battle. Looks good enough, yet 25$ to see a movie...

Isn't it normal price for DVD / Blue-ray releases of a movie? You probably won't see it in cinemas. Or I might be wrong.

I'd rather go see 15 movies than have one on my hard-drive... If I went to the movies in the first place. Except for movies based on Tolkien's work.

Not likely to be seen in theaters unless you go to a Sci-Fi Convention and see it there. In fact. on August 30th at 7:00 P.M. The "Prelude To Axanar" will be shown somewhere at DragonCon in Atlanta, Georgia. I'll be there supporting the project.

Unfortunately with the limitations placed on "Fan Films" by CBS/Paramount, they cannot show any profit from this. On the other hand, it is tremendously generous that they allow this kind of thing at all.

 

About the $25 to see a movie. Any donation down to $1 is welcome and helps to support it, which it deserves. Eventually (late 2015, if it gets made?) it will all be posted on YouTube, etc. due to the limitations noted above.
