Spart_acustard
I THOUGHT i had it.. i really did, x-com apoc working on xp, sound and everything, i was well chuffed. Then it threw something at me i never expected. Ive only just started going into the alien dimension, im can fly about pathetically in my lil ships and get the crap kicked out of me. But when i try and raid their building, (sleeping chamber) it crashes on me! The bloke appears with his "dont get hurt" poster, and then the game just shuts down as if i'd pressed "alt + F4" Ive never experienced this before, could ANYONE throw some ideas at me to get around my problem. i dont want to attract much pity but this is the first time ive ever got this far on apoc and i want to finish it. p.s go on, tell me, do you like raiding other people as much as i do??? NKF
Sounds like the same problem lots of players have reported in the past. In most of those cases, it was because the map files for the first building were not installed or corrupted. Either do a reinstall (backup your savegames first), or copy the map files from the CD into your hard drive installation. I don't know what they are (someone will - I'll just make a guess and say that it's probably on the xcomufo.com faq pages on X-Com Apocalypse). As for raids, they're useful, but don't overdo them early on. Too many raids means lots of points, and lots of points early on means the aliens will make huge leaps in their technology levels by the time the week ends. Over-did the raids at one time, and by the end of the week, the aliens had devestator cannons, shields and entropy launchers. Not a very nice experience, I can tell you. - NKF

NKF
Nothing beyond the usual tips required for most of the alien buildings. a. Methodically destroy the spawn pads. This will drastically reduce enemy resistance. b. Locate and destroy any of the mission objectives.c. Stay alive. For general tips that'll work almost anywhere: Don't rush into an ambush, especially if you know you're running into one. Draw the aliens to you. Big firefights are cool and all, but it's better if it's on your terms rather than theirs. i.e. don't be afraid to run away and regroup at a more defensible location. Leading the enemies to corner ambushes is also quite a good tactic. It gets you in close so you can switch your weapons on full auto and not worry about wasting ammo. Watch your back. Nothing worse than a surprise attack from behind, which tends to be hard to avoid in those tunnels in some of the alien dimension buildings. Cover. When the bullets start flying and you need a breather (Especially for recharging shields), some sort of cover is always welcome. If you can't find any - make some. You may want to bring a set of power swords or devestator cannons along and dig a little temporary bunker where your soldiers can rest out for a while. Perhaps even use it as a base of operations where you can dump extra shields gathered in the field. Don't do this in the city, for obvious reasons. - NKF
Spart_acustard
wise advice, i'll do my best, just one last question whats the "baked or fried" thing about?
Ki-tat Chung
I'm guessing that he's asking the akien that i.e. how would you like to be cooked?btw, in alien building missions, i like to keep a group of 3 on each pad after i've erradicated the aliens hanging around, as each armed with dual toxi-guns (toxin c if course) can handle any alien that may come along, then i send off one or two agents to finnish off the job. does wonders for points and equipment, though i must warn you: aliens eventually stop coming. once i spent several hours waiting for the next alien, so i just finnished off the game. NKF
It's just a silly question. How do you like your potatoes? You see, the UFO Alien grenade looks a bit like a slightly deformed potato. Shiny, but still potato-like. Maybe I should add 'boiled' and 'mashed' in there too... - NKF
