Doctoxic
..... from base to base when Transteller don't like me? The transfer command won't work if they don't like youI can't move men (Biochemists not soldiers) manually or load them into ships (can i?) do i just have to fire them? Do they reappear to be hired again? Any advice appreciated. Many thanks Doc
NKF
Short answer: Tough luck. No, fired units do not reappear on the hire list. The only option you have is to hire new scientists. It's not that bad. Just get what's available, then hand pick some of the better ones a little later. The best way to avoid this problem is to plan early. I find that if you always use your first base as the research facility (production and repair facilities can go elsewhere to make space), you shouldn't end up in such a fix when transtellar go ape on you. - NKF
Doctoxic
thanks NKF another problem when i hire new Biochemists they can't even walk to base because of damaged roads etc Questions: 1) DO the roads repair themselves?2) If they do then do the Biochemists make there way to base automatically?3) How can I get Transteller to not be Hostile? I have $3000 and they want $77000 - will this money get less if i keep raiding them or more?4) Did i read somewhere that if you keep raiding them that they offer YOU a settlement? Does this work with just raids or can you destroy their buildings and or spaceships? thanks Doc
NKF
Damaged roads and people-tubes do repair themselves, bit by bit every day (or was it week? It's regular, in any case). But if wait and watch your biochemist/quantum physist stop moving while in-transit, then he or she will be stuck for good. Once stopped they're stopped and waiting for orders, and since you cannot really issue any orders to them... well, you probably see the problem there. Recommendation: Hire your research staff, and quickly enter the ultra-fast time elapse mode for a few seconds. Most delivery vehicles and walking units will arrive instantly at the destination base regardless of the condition of the road or people tube access. (excellent when buying goods from a company that Megapol hates) It might not work that well for walking units, but it's worth a try. Alternately, you could always wait a few days until the people tubes are fixed. --- Depending on how ticked off Transtellar is, attacking Transtellar in hopes of getting them to demand cash from you may or may not work. If this is the first time they've become hostile with you, then there's a good chance that attacking them a little will get them to issue a cash settlement. But if they're really mad at you - your only hope is to make them happy by attacking their enemies. The latter is the only method of getting them back once they start calling the aliens their 'friends' (not infiltrated yet - they've just given up on X-Com). If you cannot afford to pay them any money, well, nothing can be done about it. And no, none of the companies in the game will ever willingly offer you any money (except the government). Raiding a company more will only increase the settlement. The size of the settlement is generally a good indication of how angry they are at you. The end result is that raiding and attacking is bad if you wish to get back into good standings with any company. It only makes matters worse. - NKF
Ki-tat Chung
ahhh....yes, this is one of the major problems. game politics are very confusing, and if you play right through without reloading/usingeditors, you'll just have to work through it using bugs (ie ultra-fast speed)
Doctoxic
thanks guys the fast speed trick works - i hate having to reload games Doc
penchant
I would like to have use of Transtellar's services again but they and Marsec are peeved at my attacks on their "alien friends." I have lost no-one to infiltration but the city seems to be polarized into the Government and Megapol versus The Cult, Marsec and Transtellar with members of the two sides attacking and raiding one another on a regular basis, punctuated by seemingly inconsequential treaty signings. I see no-one that I might attack in order to curry favour with Transtellar, other than my two closest allies. Suggestions, anyone? Is there nothing else I can do other than wait for the aliens to hit the city with the Overspawn or Apocalypse? Another question, while I remember. I keep finding that I have large stocks of Elerium, like 2k units and more. It's ammo for the Lineage Plasma Cannon and I have at least six of those in use but my stocks of Elerium keep increasing. Where is it coming from? (Solmine are neutral so they aren't donating it, I don't think.)
Bomb Bloke
Well, you can get the stuff out of raids. Transtellar has it lying around all over the place. I also buy the market out all the time. All your elerium are belong to me. Not that I ever USE the stuff; it's just a reflex action. Mmm... Elerium. https://www.angelfire.com/games3/jeffy90/images/smilies/sarcastic.gif
NKF
This bit of advice isn't very helpful, particularly if you're already well into the game, but anyway: Bring the fight to the alien dimension and forget the politics in the city altogether. The longer you stay in the city, and the more air skirmishes between you and the aliens, the more companies will start to dislike you from all the 'accidental' (intentional or otherwise) damage caused to their property (Transtellar being a good example). Companies that do not use Psiclones as their primary method for storing large amounts of money use elerium pods instead (i.e. companies other than gangs and the cult). It needn't just be Solmine that has them. If you find any elerium pods when raiding a certain building and manage to get it out of combat by either escaping or winning the battle, it will be converted into e-115 ammo for your plasma cannons the moment you get back to base. I think you get about $4000 worth of elerium per pod. - NKF
penchant
I'm well into the buildings in the alien dimension but I haven't progressed much lately because I have been half-waiting for an Apocalypse raid, just to see what it's like. Since I've already cleaned out their fleet, I have just realised that I'm not likely to see much of an Apocalypse even if the aliens can muster an attack. Maybe next game. As for Elerium, I thought that the occasional pods that my agents brought back to base got sold for cash but if the auto cleanup routine is converting pods to LPC ammo then that will account for the growing stocks. Thanks, guys.
cyrus
Ahhh... When I'd played Apoc on Superhuman, I'd managed to make the enemies of all the key corporations: Marsec, Solmine, GM, SD and Transtellar (but of the last I'm not sure - don't remember), so I'd had to rely on my own crafts, weapons and technologies to deal with aliens. Luckily by this time I had the fleet of new craft and new weapons, so still was able to finish the game. The reason these corporations was very, very angered by me, is that I'd done a lot of damage to their property (continually demolished their buildings by accident during the large air fire fights with aliens) and ignored all their claims for compensation. And during the air fights I'd stayed on the lowest altitudes. Don't know, maybe if I'd ascended to the very top, the damage whould've been minimized. NKF
One fun fact about the game is that the only things you need to win the game are a Bio-Trans (and everything needed to lead up to it) and some biochemists to research the alien buildings. Everything else is just fluff. Speaking of heights - your answer would be no. Even if the aliens were to shoot upwards, you'd be shooting in the opposite direction. At least when you're low on the ground, the aliens would be doing more damage to the city than you were. which might be a good thing. Conversely, you'd also be doing more damage to high rise structures, and your ship would have to waste time moving around obstructions. Me, I like to set one in every four vehicles in a grouping to a different height. So, when I move them together as a group, they'll stack on top of one another. Though moving in this method does have its downsides, I do it this way to avoid friendly fire, which tends to do a good portion of damage to your ships - especially noticeable in hoverbike swarms with lineage plasma cannons. - NKF
cyrus
I'd not call Annihilator a fluff. At least it is interesting to see how you would counter massive attack of alien fleet containing battleships and this nasty Overspawn deployer with only the Bio-Trans crafts. Thrilling experience. I mean, that without extensive research dealing with enemy becomes harder and harder and if you above this have managed to make enemies out of the major corps with only Megapol left as a weapons supplier (this tends to cooperate with you even if you'll do the aliens job - ground the whole city) - it is not very funny. So it is unadvisible to make much enemies in the beginning of the game, when you really depend on other companies supplies. Later you may ignore them as long as your overall rating is high. NKF
Oh, the annihilator is fluff, and so is X-Com armour and the toxigun (though I admit, they're really powerful fluff that eases things along a bit! ). What I mean is that the absolute minimum technology you need to actually win the game is to have an interdimensional troop transporter and some biochemists to research the buildings. After that, it's just a matter of evasion and systematically destroying each alien building, and you've won the game. With the bio-trans, you cannot go in guns blazing, even though it has massive shield space (assuming you're using shields), it cannot mount a gun powerful enough to take down a capital ship (well, actually, it can, but it takes forever to even dent the hull of a capital ship). Instead, you have to resort to evasion. It's possible, though you'd probably need several 'decoys' to help attract enemy fire away from the main troop transport when the alien dimension is still full of UFOs. But once you destroy the control centre, which stops UFO production, you can slowly whittle down most of their forces by letting them get destroyed in the city. Though it's possible, I never said that this was a very bright idea. Now I can't for the life of me remember why I even brought this up. Oh well. - NKF
