There's the Marathon Series, which was a trilogy of commercial games when they were first released but have since had their engine's source code released and their game data/content made freeware. They were made by Bungie with the intent of making a series of Doom clones exclusively for the Apple Macintosh, but now available on all platforms.

There's also Oolite, an open source clone of the classic Elite space sim game.

Once again Ubisoft is celebrating it's 30th Anniversary. As you know last months (June) give away was Prince of Persia: Sands of Time. This month however Ubisoft is giving away Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell.

So with 2 down and 5 games left it wouldn't surprise me if the 5 remaining games are one of these in no particular order. (Remember I'm just guessing.)

Assassins Creed

Rayman

Ghost Recon

Rainbow Six

Heroes of Might & Magic/Might & Magic

Beyond Good & Evil

Far Cry

Call of Juarez

I highly doubt we'll be seeing anything recent like Watch_Dogs or South Park: Stick of Truth.

SquareEnix's popular episodic-adventure game Life is Strange have decided that from now on Episode 1 will be free from this day forward. I'm guessing this is similar to what Capcom did with Resident Evil Revelations 2, give players a taste of the product and once hooked sell you more. This tactic is most commonly used by drug dealers, you've been warned. You can pick up Life is Strange episode one here.

Here's a crappy game nobody asked for, it's called Ampu-Tea. The description is, "The Surgeon-Simulator inspired Tea-making game". With a plethora of thumbs down reviews, this game would be an excellent April Fool's Day gift for a Steam buddy of yours. You can pick up this piece of shit right here.

Indiegala is having a free Steam giveaway with Timberman. It's a decent little indie game that has a Very Positive rating on Steam. If you're unlucky try again every 5 minutes to "win" a key.

Indiegala is giving away the formula to eternal youth. Sadly, their only giving it to people who live in Zaire. Instead we get Ship Lord. It's a game and it has a ship/ships and a Lord and yeah. Send this game to your estranged friend you had in grade school, make him/her wonder why you ever bothered.

Ubisoft is now giving away August's free game. This time it's Rayman Origins (I told ya).

Remember, you need a Uplay account in order to pick this up. Click here in order to enjoy this classic platformer from Ubi.

- Addendum -

Starting in October I won't nearly be online as much to keep everyone updated on free games. I generally check everyday and if I feel a game is worth a damn I usually will post it in this topic. Lately there hasn't been very many worthwhile games to mention, but if there is and say it's a Steam game I will only post it here if the game receives at least 70% positive user review/ratings. Generally if a great game is given away for free it doesn't last very long, so if I miss out on something fantastic I apologize in advance.

Another give away this time in the form of Normality. A DOS game that originally came out in 1996 and is essentially as per Mobygames a 1st-person, Puzzle-solving, Sci-Fi/Futuristic game. Don't let the "Mixed" user reviews fool you, this game was/is a underrated gem. Click here to snatch it up and click Here to read more about it, notice as you scroll down the reviews the game received when it was first released.

Both GOG and Steam are giving away Shadow Warrior Classic (1997) for free! If you enjoy classic old school FPS you need to pick this up. Even if you don't care for these types of games, it's a good way to pad your digital gaming library. happy.png

Here's a great little indie game from Indiegala called Memories of a Vagabond. I myself picked it up a year or so back and intend to play it, assuming I get through my back catalog on Steam...and the 200+ games on GOG...and 40+ on Origin and 15 on Uplay......Pick it up here!

Starting on September 14th of this year, Ubisoft will be giving away their 4th game - The Crew. Well I guess my theory about giving away newer games is shot. There is speculation that their giving away this title is to boost their almost deserted online community. Bookmark this page, or have a good memory until the 14th, you can pick it up here. Remember, you have to have a Uplay account/software.

Despite Brilliant Bob being labeled as an Action-Adventure/Indie title, this is clearly a lie intended to cover up the fact that it is a horror game. What appears to be the love child of Grimace of McDonald's fame with SpongeBob Square Pants, this game has crap written all over it. Pick it up here and scare someone early for Halloween.

Not all games have to include violence, try a puzzle game. The Pixel Puzzle series seems to be popular with indy and casual gamers. Pick it up here from Indiegala.

Ubisoft has released it's October giveaway with Beyond Good & Evil. Which leaves 2 games left for 2016, unless of course Vivendi buys them out before that. I'm personally shocked that Assassin's Creed hasn't been given away yet, but it wouldn't surprise me if it's one of the two left. As per usual you can pick up Beyond Good & Evil right here, and of course you'll need the DRM/Uplay client.
