But if you allow your excitable, blood-thirsty teenage brain to take a backseat for a wee second, you'll realise that at around 45 GBP per each quality game on that console (and with, in reality, not that many truly interesting games past the usual handful of launch titles) there are far more intelligent investments in digital entertainment than that.

 

Good luck finding good games in the $10-15 segment on that. And, of course, no indy games, no modding, no free open-ended multiplayer, no frequent sales on assorted digital retailers, no actual high-end graphical ability, etc. etc. etc.

 

Also, as with consumer printers and ink: they're likely not making much money on the base hardware itself. But they'll be looking to more than make up for that in what they'll happily charge for each game.
