Trying to find out if there's anything out there I've missed. I'm a big fan of older games like Steel Panthers and Panzer General. More modern stuff like Men of War and World in Conflict are what I've been playing lately. Been wanting to play Combat Mission again, but it won't work with my video card. I've kind of burned out on Mount and Blade. I'm really interested in Wargame: European Escalation, but have heard mixed opinions on it. And then of course there's the grand strategy stuff like Hearts of Iron. I'm wanting something I haven't played. Tank battles are definitely nice, with good damage modeling, but other time periods could be good. Kinda tired of world war 2 though, wish there was more cold war stuff out there. Anyone have any ideas? Achtung Panzer looks neat, but again, kinda burned out on world war 2.
Ooh, I just read a thread on the UFO forums that someone's made a mod that allows hiring of soldiers at the secondary bases that's just about ready for completion.
There's been a few minor complaints, sure. But the game is extremely moddable. It's barely been out a week and already there's full makeovers for the game. There's even already a mod that replaces the geoscape with a map of the Earth, and ones that make it so your soldiers can permanently die and allow hiring of new soldiers, mods that make it so that you spend APs when moving stuff around in the inventory, mods to add hotkeys, and stuff like that. I really, really love the tech tree. I was expecting it to be closer to X-Com's, and for the first part of the game it followed X-Com's really closely, throwing in some TFTD-style corpse research to unlock a few techs as well. But I read around on some forums, and it turned out finishing plasma tech meant I was only about 20% done with the tech tree. Having to capture lots and lots of commanders is a bit anoying, though. It takes lots of them to advance the research. I miss my Skyrangers, though. The starting craft only has 8 unit slots, and a tank still takes up 4. Even the second-generation craft only has 10. I'd like to see a better application of psi, though. So far, the only psi I've seen used paralyzes you for a turn once it eats through your bravery bar. I'm hoping there's stuff later on that has proper psi.
No, I've never had a reason to download drivers for my monitor. Hell, I don't even know what model it is. It's just a gateway plug and play monitor. And my card is a 6100. There's probably a difference in what it displays. Regardless, the problem isn't with the monitor, as the game displays perfectly when I disable the graphics card. Well, mostly perfectly, it seems the vertical is stretched a bit because the geoscape looks a little more egg-shaped than I remember.
Alright, I'll try getting different driver packs. I don't see anything about video modes, just Display Mode Timing. Trying to force different display modes either did nothing, or gave me a black screen
Well, I finally figured out how to get Qres to work, and I've got to say, it does an amazing job. Now instead of just displaying the top third of the screen, it displays nothing but a black screen. Well, it only goes to a black screen if I set the Qres to anything but 640x480. If I set it to that, then it just displays the top third of the screen again. Okay, I'm able to get it to work by disabling my video card. It'd be nice if there was a better solution though.
Oh, and Qres doesn't work. It's just an exe that does nothing when I run it. Pete said he'd link to a version with a windows interface two days ago but never did.
I don't have a "Digital Flat Panel Settings" option. I have Screen Adjustment, Display Mode Timing, Performance & Quality Settings, Color Correction, Video Overlay Settings, Tools, NVRotate, Screen Resolutions & Refresh Rates, Display Settings, Color Settings, Size and Position, Desktop Management. None of them have anything about scaling. And yes, still running 60hz.
I have an LCD monitor at 60hz, but that's certainly not the problem. I've played using this monitor before perfectly fine. It's only started doing this after getting a new processor and graphics card. I used to use a P4 processor with a Radeon x300 SE, and UFO and TFTD only had the problem with the gargled graphics which the fix handled. In fact, about a year ago, I had a problem where I would only get a black screen, but that was because my LCD was set to 75hz instead of 60, and switching it made it run perfectly.
Just because there's a person that exists with that name doesn't mean it was named after him. What about the Diego Ramirez Islands? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diego_Ramirez_Islands
