Arrgg i know I said that I wasnt going to be lazy when I wanted to write. But as it is I'm not being lazy. Nope, I just have tons of stuff to do in school suddenly. I SWEAR teachers plan these things! Last week I had NOTHING to do, and now this week I have EVERYTHING to do. So crazy. If I have spare time, I'll be sure to work on some more stuff, but as it is I only got that one sectoid description. :dontgetit:

THe P&P system I made, I have class's Such as Your joe-blow Soldier, medic's, eng's, and Scouts. With certain class's only being able to do certain things. Such as the Soldier is the only guy who can carry the rocket lanucher. The medic the only guy who can keep PC's and NPC's, who have been hit, alive in non-ctr. areas. (A few of the story-lines NPC's have been shot before, with one losing one of their legs. and only though the actions of the PC's medic saved them) The Eng. is the only guy who can plant bombs, and the scout is the guy whos the point-man. The reason I do this is because I HATE open-endedness characters. I like characters who "can" be somewhat open, I do like it when certein characters can do things that other characters can't do. The reason for this is because its more Realistic. In real life you can't do everything, unless you spend years learning how.

Ah a new member, welcome to the X-com Fourms, I see you found your way in here quickly enough. Well, let me get cracking. And that's your problem right there. X-Com is going to be realistic. (At least, I sure hope so. ) Dungeons and Dragons is NOT realistic, It was never ment to be realistic. So don't compare X-Com to Dungeons and Dragons? Mmmmkay? Just because they are going to be using a D20 system, DOES NOT MEAN they will be ripping everything off Dungeons and Dragons. :hmmm: Have you ever tryed to make your own D- system? It is superbly hard. It took me 2 months to get a basic idea down JUST for a System that used only 2 D6 dice for X-Com, and let me tell you it is nothing NEAR being complete or in most cases even workable, but the my group and I manage to fill in the blanks with our imaginations but still keeping it as realistic. (And in alot of case's very graphic deaths. ) Also, you have to remember a simple yet one of the most important rules to have ever of been said. KISS. Or "Keep It Simple Silly" If you make the game too complex that only players who have weeks to learn the rules, no one will play it. But on the other hand if it is TOO simple there's usally nothing in-depth about it, and makes it uninteresting to play. I've never played any of those systems you have mentioned, but I do know for a fact that for brand new players. D&D is very easy to get into, while still retaining enough depth to make it fun and enjoyable. I think thats the main reason why D&D is so popular. Yup let me get off my soap box now.

Well after only working for about 10minutes. I've came up with One of the alien descriptions! And a quote for them too!. I'm planning on writeing one description for each race and with one or more quotes. Then I'll move onto weapons and armor, then UFO's, then X-Com Craft. Maybe I'll do other descriptions, I don't know. If Fugue wants me to write some short storys or something akin to that as well. I can do that too. Anyways, if you guys want to see what I've written, here ya go. Sectoid A Sectoid is a one of the smallest aliens humanity has contacted so far. They look and act physically weak, which they are, and only standing to around normal chest height, or shorter, to a human. They have a small body, but with large eyes and a much larger head then humans. But that doesn't mean that they are not capable of harmful action. Sectoids use powerful psionic powers to demoralize soldiers into a panicked state or even take over other soldier's minds, turning them on their fellow soldiers. Besides their mind powers, sectoids also use their plasma weaponry to get affect. Often killing soldiers in one shot before they even know they are there. The Sectoid Hierarchy ranges from soldiers, medics, and leaders in their hive-like society. While Sectoids cannot reproduce, they have developed cloning to replace their numbers lost in battle scientists have found they most likely are a genetically engineered species. Sectoids tend to indulge in abduction's of unaware humans and mutilating cattle. For proposes that scientists have only recently have begun to understand. The abductions are used to extract genetic material from humans to produce a Sectoid/Human cross breeding and developing clones for infiltrating human society. The cattle provide both nutrition and genetic material for them. "Their size makes them hard to spot, they can hide almost anywhere they want to and with a ability to psionicly control our people from other rooms or across whole fields, they can almost always get the first strike in. Well, he has put down some very easy things we could do. Like quotes. "Them sectoids are tricky SOB's!' Weaponary descrpitsion. "See this rocket lanucher? This is my BOOM STICK." And other such things.

Well I only started AD&D about a month ago, I started my own version of P&P X-Com back in Oct. But before that I knew about P&P just never could get anyone to play with, nor did I want to buy anything besides the dice.

While I'm not a very good artist. *Cut to a 2nd grader showings his artwork off to his mom* "Look mommy I can draw better then this High School Senior" *Cut to see High School Senior crying* "It's just not fair" But with writing, ahh now there's something I can do, and do it well. At least, I think so... Expect me to have some stuff going, but if you see nothing then expect the worst. I got lazy. But if you want some of my writing samples I'd galdy had some over. But I got one question. 1. These quotes, are these on anything in general? Or just like. "This weapon that makes things go boom, etc." Or like "This alien is funny looking." or what? Anyways, school starting, bye.

*STIM's head hits his computer monitor* Argg. Bastiaan *BEEP* Wrong again. Not to get you down or anything, And don't take this the wrong way, but none of the things we have been talking about is a boardgame. Think of it instead as a book, a book that gets bigger and bigger the more time you spend playing it. You "can" take the combat part of the game and put it on a board to help Reference yourself and other players. Just to let you know, these type of games D&D and this new X-Com D20 game, are VERY hard to learn everything all in one day, one week even. It takes a long time to learn what you can and cannot do. But the basic's of the game are easy to learn, even easyer if you have someone there who already knows how to play. And you can play this role-playing Pen&Paper game byyourself or with as many people as you want! I hope this helps once again. And Please ask more quesions, This is the only topic I've been able to be interested enough to actully post in after being a member for awhile.

Bastiaan *BEEP* wrong! I'm taking a wild guess you've never heard of, or played AD&D? Don't feel too bad about it. Before I can answer your question, I guess I have to give you a quick run-down on what everbody is talking about. Basicly, a group of people get together, one person in this group is the "Game Master" OR in most cases, the "Dungeon Master" The rest of the people are the "Players" or "Characters" who live in the world the Game Master has created, though the help of a few Text books. Some of the Text books DO have pre-layed out campain's, which for the most part are boring unless you have a great GM. It is MORE fun (FUN FUN FUN) if the GM makes up his "Own" world with his own NPC's (Non-Player Characters) and story, rather then barrowing another story. But for the most part, most Textbooks GM's carry around with them are what are referred to as "Core Books" or books they need to play the game the want. I.E. AD&D, StarWars, StarTerk, X-Com, etc. For the gameplay, almost all games require a set of 7 dice. I can't remember all of the dice in the set, but I'll name a few. D4, This is a Four-sided die. D6, Standard Six-sided die. D10, Ten-sided die. D20, Twenty-sided die. The GM and the players use their set of dice (Or share) to roll up characters, do combat I.E. Attacking/dodging, or some other random things. So now that you know some history, I can answer your question. Yes this is a game that involves books and a set of 7 die. But this is not a "Choose your own Adventure" book where you pick a page number. Everything that happens is though the GM "Telling" you want is happening. And trust me, that is not as easy as it sounds. I should know, I'm the GM of my X-com RP group. (But I'm not a member of the group who is talking on this fourm.) If your a good GM, you can capture your players in a world where they are the heros and were they like to kill big bad aliens, and you get to have alot of fun on the way. I hope this helped!

If you need help, I have Exp. in DMing for X-Com RP sessions, as I have already a system using only D6 dice, as most people don't have D20 dice, but I was planning later on to add a D20 type system. My sessions are very fun, the players I have are great, they said they love the way my system, that I have created, is run. It's not 100% workable I have found out, but more then enough to have fun and to keep the game going. Don't feel too bad, about the base attacks. I once had a game where 15 battleships would attack my base each month. And this is on SUPER easy mind you. Sure I was rolling in the money, but I got so fed up with all the base attack missions, I just stopped playing.

I have 100 reseachers. And they cost 3 million, JUST to upkeep them there. Yes yes I know about, doing the transfer trick, but I don't want to. But having that many researchers IS good. Heck I could of researched advanced craft in my 2ND MONTH!. But I didn't as I want to train Psy Guys first. Never had a chance to train Psy guys before. But I can't even think of having to upkeep 200+ researchers for +6million bucks. I'm just bearly getting by.

I have 2 men, a rookie and a squaddie. Hold the UFO door, and shoot any aliens that come out. Then I send 2 squads of two, with a Rocket Tank out. The 2 squads of two are. Rookie-Squaddie. Rookie to shoot aliens first, but if he misses, the squaddie will shoot it. Then in my SkyRanger, I have 3 men, a Captain and two Sarg's, Hold down the sky ranger, and on stand by to be sent to where the action is the hottest. Right now they are armed with Laser Weapons, but soon they will have Heavy Plas. I never use Nades, unless in base defense, don't know why.
