Apparently it was just the Floater medic causing the problem. I took all my scientists off the researching him project, and now I'm months later into the game.
And the reason for that is because I just got raped on a terror mission. Has anyone else ever been utterly obliterated in like one turn? Let me tell you what happened. I get a message saying that aliens are terrorizing London. So I send my Skyranger off to London. First turn, my first soldier steps out of the Skyranger. He spots two Chryssalids and two Snakemen right away. So you know, I start shooting. I manage to kill all four of them, but used up so many TUs shooting at them that my troops didn't get to move very far at all. Some snakeman that I couldn't see wanders up, throws an alien grenade, and blows up like 10 of my troops. I have two freakin survivors. THEN another Chrysallid wanders over and zombies one of them. Second turn, the only surviving guy goes berserk, and kills both the zombie/Chrysallid, another snakeman slithers out and shoots at him but misses. Third turn, I get him to kill the snakeman. Nothing happens on the alien's turn. Fourth turn, he panics, drops his laser rifle, and runs down an alley, right into another snakeman. Then he dies. Has anyone ever had a suckier mission than that?
Yeah actually, I think it was a Floater Medic... that's supposed to happen? Well, I'm pretty sure the quitting to Windows still wasn't supposed to happen.
Of course, I did have one female casualty, and that was at the hands of another female soldier taking a VERY poorly aimed autoshot... so I dunno what to tell you.
I think Floaters are biased too, I just had a terror attack go extremely sour, when I finally finished off all the aliens, all my male soldiers had been killed.
I was just playing UFO.. something odd happened. The research complete screen came up, but then it showed me the live cyberdisc information. Now, I haven't even fought a cyberdisc in this particular game yet, let alone capture and research one. Then when I clicked okay, the game stopped and I was back in windows. How annoying.
I recommend downloading the Ur-Quan Masters, it's great playing SC2 again.. and yeah, I kinda remember hearing something about what you're talking about a while ago. All I remember is that they said they were doing a fantasy/medieval game and that SC2 fans would like it. That's all I know.
This is off topic, but do you know about the remake of Star Control 2? Toys for Bob, the creators of Star Control 1 and 2, have released the source code for SC2, and it's being made to work on modern PCs. It's called The Ur-Quan Masters because they don't own the copyright to "Star Control", but it's the exact same game.
