Loupgris
So hello, I'm a new one and I have been a bit lost in all the forums ... I didn't really know where to put that but I have think some of you here would be interested. I think this information could found place on wikipedia (but as a french my english is not perfect.) I have read the last two weeks a book named X-com UFO defense : a novel, a book written by Diane Duane. Those informations was worthy of the forum news, but I'm not allowed to post here. That a book that told us the story of the Commander Jonelle Barrett of X-com and her fight against the aliens. I think that their is a second book since the story finish after they destroy the first earth-based alien base (who was actually 20 miles away of the new base in Swiss). I have still the book if peoples need informations. You know all well about what happened during the first alien war, but some informations that may interest you was found in : - The explanations from X-com scientists about the Ethereals explain that they was living on a dying red stars, and they modified themselves from the Sectoid species to remplace parts of their body by bionic stuff to increase their psychic powers and diminish their needs. - X-com was selling aliens species and weapons throught blackmarket because of the lack of credits to fight aliens. - The aliens stole cattle to use their DNA to adapt DNA of new species to their own DNA. The aliens bases in Swiss get discovered because they started to capture only rare breed of cows for their experiments. - The silacoid are a totally animal species the aliens use to dig holes and melts rocks to create underground bases. - The chief scientist of X-com base in marroco, Trenchard, did experiences on himself melting his DNA with etheral ones and turned himself into a sort of human ethereal. He served as spy until Barret discover his plans and use him to disinform the aliens. He escape his capture as the force of 4 x-coms bases are send to attack the first alien base discovered on earth, in the swiss alps. - All X-coms bases have a permanent tournament of a game named Crud. Here come the quote from the book : "around the billiards table, a crownd of about twenty men and women were yelling their heads off at two teams of four people, who were enthusiastically body-blocking one another as they took turns trying to get at one of two billiard balls and use it to knock the other one into a pocket.". The world tournament is held in the X-com base of Rio and X-com agents often say "Where there is no crud, there is no life." - The X-com agents are often acting under United Nations covers. They do investigations like policemen about UFO sightings to look for really discreet operations (like the cattle stolen in Swiss). They have official UN facilities in some town near there base, like for Andermatt there Swiss base, where agents are forced to do UN offices jobs. They are the public relation section, and work to keep the X-com under operatives under cover. So ... I dunno if their still some rp games going on this forum but I'm willing to join any of them, and I have also a little thing I would like to do ... I look for all informations I can found on all the aliens species from all the X-coms, just to make a full aliens biology stuff. I have get all from UFO on wikipedia (both living aliens and aliens autopsy informations and pics, what I needed). I use a computer that is not mine, so I can't get the games and do it myself ... I miss the time when I finished UFO and Terror from the deeps.

Loupgris
That a really really old book found in the library. But since those informations was not on wikipedia and they explain a lot about the world, I have think it would be good information for those doing RP and writing fanficiton. Also, as I have forgot it, for the living aliens interrogations, they use systems to analyse brainwaves of the aliens as they ask them stuff. They use later the first version of the psi-amp stuff to read images in the aliens minds after asking them questions. It's a difficult stuff, and the informations are really cryptic. For psychic damage, it is show that psychic battles end with physical trauma by reaction of the brain. Many skull trauma and coma are results of psychic attacks. FullAuto
I vaguely remember reading the novel a few years ago. I doubt any more will be published, because Atari are arseholes. Shame, really, as there's enough on this forum alone to fill about five novels and a short story collection.
Loupgris
X-com is a full universe and would permit a lot of stories to be written in.
FullAuto
well, I was just talking about the first game, really. TFTD was rushed. Interceptor...was ok, I suppose. Enforcer was crap. Fun, but crap. Apocalypse was a big mistake in terms of storyline, though the game was good.
