Despite its bizarre appearance, the danglefly is one of the three humanoid transgenant species in the game, and it is capable of using most human and Reticulan weapons. Distribution

Dangleflies can be found in any land that has not been swallowed up by the Biomass, and they can be encountered from the earliest stages of a game. Being human sized, they are small enough to be encountered in the second stage of an establish base mission.

Tactical notes

Although a danglefly uses its wings to fly, it cannot fly over an obstacle like a building, a wall or a burnt out car. It is no better off than transgenants that have to walk.

Dangleflies are capable of using most human and Reticulan weapons in the game. In the early missions they will be armed with pistols, human assault rifles, and, on occasion, sniper rifles. As the game develops, they will begin using more powerful human and Reticulan weapons.

An unarmed danglefly will attempt to fly up to a soldier and attack him with its fists. It is quite capable of beating a soldier to death in 10-15 seconds.

The level of risk that a danglefly poses and the tactics you should use against it depend entirely on what weapon it has. Keeping your soldiers together and moving them across the map as a tight-knit group may work against a danglefly early on, but it is not a good tactic to use against a danglefly with an area effect weapon such as an alien plasma gun.

Most weapons are effective against dangleflies, although they are moderately well protected against weapons inflicting hard damage. They are fairly easy to take down, even in the early stages of the game.

It is possible to take a danglefly alive, and they are small enough to be carried. A danglefly will be rendered unconscious if its health is reduced to 500 hit points or below, 42% of the original total.
