Distribution
Cudgels can be found in any land that has not been swallowed up by the Biomass, and they are encountered from the earliest missions in the game. Being human sized, they are small enough to be encountered in the second stage of an establish base mission.
Tactical notes
The level of threat that a cudgel poses towards your soldiers depends on what weapon it is carrying. In the early missions, they will be armed with pistols, human assault rifles and the occasional sniper rifle. They will be equipped with more powerful human and alien weapons as the game progresses; they can use most human and alien weapons in the game. This means that tactics that work in early missions can be disastrous if you try them later on.
Cudgels have much better armour than morelmen and dangleflies, which makes them more dangerous in urban missions and the second stage of establish base missions. A cudgel armed with a rifle that fires hard rounds (such as the HK G36) represents a severe danger to your soldiers in the close combat of an establish base mission in the early part of the game.
A cudgel can be taken alive, and it is small enough to be carried. A cudgel will become unconscious if its health is reduced to 200 hit points or below, 20% of the starting total.
