Distribution
Car crabs can be found in any land that has not been swallowed up by the Biomass. They can even be found in the wilderness, despite the need to find cars to use as shells. They are too big to be encountered in the second part of an establish base mission. Car crabs first appear between the Area-51 mission and the Kasputin Yar mission.
Tactical notes
Car crabs are outsize hermit crabs that have learned to use cars as improvised shells in the way that they used empty shells before the Fall. The body of the car gives a car crab good protection against most weapons in the game except for warp weapons and weapons that fire hard rounds.
A car crab’s weapon has fairly good range, but fortunately it is not that dangerous to your soldiers. It inflicts laser damage, and the armour you develop as the game progresses gives good protection against laser damage. Car crabs are slow moving and they are only dangerous if you encounter a group of them.
A car crab can be taken alive without too much difficulty, although it is too big to carry. A car crab will become unconscious when its health is reduced to 500 hit points or below, 17% of the starting total.
