Character Growth Percentages

Character Growth/Subclass Training

We all know what each class excels at, but what about secondary attributes? For instance, Abala is often touted as a good Sniper. So is he? Well I took a little time to find out. Initially, I used the 'setxplevel' cheat in the console to increase each class to their highest level possible. Then I jotted down the numbers in the character parameters panel for each class and entered it into a spreadsheet to compare. Classes with the highest skill value were given an arbitrary value of 100 and all other classes were then compared against this giving a rough percentage of how good that class is in that area. But these were inaccurate due to rounding and other game mechanics.

Six months passed, and the actual coefficients were found in the official game editor: RPG Settings -> Classes -> View -> Select Resource tab -> Classes. Here then is an updated table:

1  AP's aren't given as a percentage, it is just a raw number between 15 and 20. Not sure what is up there.

2  Evasion isn't a stat listed in the editor so I just included the values from my initial table. Perhaps Evasion is a calculated stat in-game?

There is also an IC stat listed in the editor. What it is, I don't know. It's included below as a percentage:

Scout50%
Sniper35%

Boiling It Down

So what does all this mean? Let's summarize:

Vitality Points

Grenadiers and soldiers are the healthiest each getting full potential, while scouts get 75% as much (obviuosly these three classes need more VPs because they will be in the line of fire more than the other classes and thus need to take a beating). Engineers, medics and snipers only get 60% of the possible, mainly because they are back line troops.

Action Points

As mentioned above, this is an odd stat having raw numbers between 15 and 20 in the game editor. However, we can extrapolate percentages by multiplying these values by 5 (maybe the game does this too). Scouts obviously get the most action points because they, well, scout ahead. Soldiers and grenadiers are close behind while engineers, medics and sniper all hover around 50-60% as much as a scout.

Evasion

Evasion is another strange stat: it is not listed in the editor so I had to calculate them from in-game. Still, we can see that Evasion follows Action Points very closely and even VPs to some degree, with front-line troops better than those in the back. Makes sense if you think on it a bit.

Melee

This skill is pretty clear-cut. Scouts get the most due to their occasional reliance on hand to hand combat. Soldiers and grenadiers are pretty good at it also. Suprisingly, Medics can also melee decently. Engineers suffer however, being only half as good as a scout. The class you should not even bother melee'ing with is the Sniper. At only 25% of the max, it doesn't even pay.

Throwing

Another unambiguous stat, Grenadiers are the winner due to their class needing it to throw grenades (not very far though which is dumb). Scouts are also pretty good at throwing because they need it to toss throwing weapons. Everyone else is 50%.

Sniping

Clearly, snipers are the best at this. Unexpectedly, Medics aren't too bad at it either being 50% (still not very good, but what else can a medic do)? You shouldn't even bother trying to snipe with Engineers, Grenadiers or Soldiers as they are 25%, while Scouts are horrible having only 10%.

Burst

Soldiers are tops at burst needing this to handle machine guns efficiently. Engineers and Grenadiers are half as good and so are scouts (I'm a little confused on this one). Medics are 25%... once again leading them back down the sniping route. Snipers are the worst at only 10%; this class is better off with a scoped rifle and a pistol for backup.

Hide

This is a skill that Scouts rely on and it shows. Snipers are pretty good at 75%. Everyone else is 50% except for the Grenadier who is 25%. Basically, keep the grenadier way to the back if you are sneaking your squad around, but this prevents him from throwing grenades due to the short range.

Spot

Snipers are the best at long range spotting. However, if you have a competent scout on your team, they will probably spot enemies first (even at 75% as good) simply because they will be closer. All other classes are 50% so everyone can be spotters to some degree. It all depends on luck (or your skill controlling them).

Engineering

It's no surprise that Engineers are 100% but Grenadiers are the next best class to train at 50%. Everyone else is 25% or lower, so the chance of them succeeding with picking a lock or defusing a mine are slim to none, especially as the game goes on.

Medicine

Medics are 100% which isn't a shocker. Engineers are 50%, which means they can help in a pinch. All the other classes are 25% so they can do rudimentary patching with bandages and low level drugs but that's about it.

Interrupt

A strange stat as nobody is 100% good at this skill. Scouts, Snipers and Soldiers are in the 75-80% range while everyone else is 50 or 60%. No wonder this is a hard skill to train.
